MarissaLinnea
Morning everyone, day two (for most of us, I think there are a couple that are a day or two ahead), I just wanted to wish everyone a great second day at their Whole 30 challenge! Stay strong and confident in what you are doing, and know that at the end you are going to feel so great and so proud of your accomplishment! JennK
I'm a day late, starting W30 for the first time today. I have a lot of weight to lose, and I've been struggling with it for years with little success. So I'm doing this to completely change my eating habits and break the hold some foods have over me. I'm not expecting to lose a lot this month -- although it would be a nice bonus -- but I want to just start feeling better and getting my body and mind into the right state to lose. Tara Hively Burch
It's day 2 of my 2nd Whole30! So far, so good here. I need to make sure to get more sleep (but that's a general thing), but my food intake is looking fairly good so far, if heavier on the fruit than I'd like. (3-4 servings a day, when I'd like it to be closer to 2--but this time of year, when all of my favorites are in season, it is hard to stop!) Speaking of fruit, I think the main thing I need to work on this time around is that darned sugar addiction. You know it's bad when you feel the urge not just to buy & eat candy, but to eat entire packages of it, and to do it such that you can hide the evidence. . . Anyway, in my last Whole30, I think I may have over-relied on fruit to get me through, and as I sort-of knew and ISWF reminded me, that's just giving into the sugar craving. Yes, fruit is healthy, but if my body wanted sugar and got sugar, I didn't fix anything. I want to work on that more intentionally this time around, and avoid feeding the sugar dragon. If I'm really hungry, some protein, fat, and veggies will sound appetizing and will satisfy me; if that doesn't appeal to me, I'll know it's a sugar craving that I need to ignore. Hope everyone's having a good day today!
carolb
My name's Carol and my daughter, Anna, and I started the Whole30 on July 1! I've been Paleo for 1 1/2 years, but suffer from what I call Paleo drift -- too many cheats, exceptions, excuses (i.e. "I didn't have time to fix lunch so I will go to Chik Fil A instead" -- yes, that's a good choice). Anna started Paleo one month ago and her cheat days have outnumbered her Paleo days. She wants to get control of her extreme carb cravings and lose the weight she gained during her first year of college. We are on day two and doing great so far! Emily
Hi all, my family started on the first as well! Everyone sounds great! (especially giving up that Dew! Hold strong!) Yay July Whole30!
Tara Hively Burch
Ugh, I think I have hit the "hangover" phase. (if you're not familar with the unofficial Whole30 timeline, check it out) While I typically get migraines at a certain time of the month (and I'm definitely very close to that), I'm wondering if my current head-pounding might also be related to my ill-conceived farewell to Hershey's Kisses and Rolos last week. WTH was I thinking? Ah, well. It's the day before July 4th, so I'll likely get out of work early, and I have migraine meds if I decide I can't stand it anymore. I know, from past experience, that I'll be feeling better next week, and absolutely FABULOUS after that, so I can take some discomfort now. I hope everyone else is having a wonderful day and staying strong--you can do this, and you will be SO glad you did!

I get migraines, too. My D.O. has me on a feverfew supplement, which really lessens the intensity and frequency of headaches for me, without the sick feelings that migraine meds give me. However...I have been having that "big headache is coming on" feeling all day yesterday and today. I am trying to drink a lot of water, make sure I'm eating enough, etc. I'm looking forward to getting over this hump...hopefully sooner rather than later! My experience with migraine meds (specifically sumatriptan) is that I have fewer side effects if I take it pretty soon after my head starts hurting. If I wait until I am really miserable, like I did yesterday, then it seems they only take the edge off of the headache, but I get *really* nauseated and tired. If I hadn't already prepped protein, veggies & such over the weekend, I could never have put dinner together last night. I ate a little bit, but felt too sick to eat very well. Nine hours of sleep last night helped, but I definitely felt the headache coming on again today. While I'm sorry you're not feeling well either, at least we're not alone. We'll get through this! Annika
I also started on July 1st! This will be my second Whole30. Last time I pretty much focused only on what to remove from my diet and didn't make sure I was eating enough. I ended up hungry and snacking on TONS of nuts, some of which were Planters nuts roasted in peanut oil. So, a bit of a fail. I also felt resentful about having to be so strict. This time my attitude is much better. I don't need to lose weight, but I do have some chronic joint inflammation issues that I'm hoping to improve. I also get lots of bad headaches, which I blame on my tight neck and shoulder muscles - I doubt diet has much to do with them, but who knows? I tracked yesterday's food intake through Sparkpeople (I track VERY rarely), and as I suspected, I wasn't getting nearly enough calories or protein. I had barely eaten 1000 calories after dinner, which really surprised me! I had strawberries with coconut milk for dessert to bump it up. I need to work on eating more earlier in the day. carolb
Happy Independence Day Everyone! Day 4 of the Whole30 challenge for my daughter and me. Because I was Paleo before, I'm not suffering from headaches and I've been really good about meal planning for the week, so I don't feel like I'm starving. My most challenging time of the day seems to be from 2-3 p.m. when I am at work and wanting to snack, even though I'm not hungry. I've toughed it out, and will continue to do so, but that is one hard habit to break. Hope all are doing well.
