Hi

Im starting the whole30 on may 1st. Reading through the wesite I know that I have to try and avoid these indgredients, however how do I look for them? I know read the lables but are all things going to say that they have msg, sulfites and carageenans??? are there any other words to look for? I hope this makes sense, I dont even know what a carageenan is?!

carrageenan is a processed extract from seaweed that helps make things thicker/creamier than they otherwise would be. They throw it in ice cream to make it "creamier" (i don't know why people aren't happy with the normal creaminess of ice cream...but whatever), they throw it in coconut milk for the same reason.

It's also used as something to improve some foods' mouth feel. They put it in deli meats for that purpose.

Carageenan and sulfites are ususally pretty obvious on labels. I'm sure there is some sneaky version of labeling most things, but I've seen carageenan spelled out enough that I think it generaly is just spelled out.
