Already thin people and doubting my decisions

Recommended Posts

This is my first post and hopefully I chose the right section. I am on day 6 of my first Whole 30 and just really need some support as to why I am doing this, this is a common feeling to forget all the reasons right? Its great reading all the results and how amazing everyone feels after but I notice a lot of it has to do with people weighing less, I am already on the small side (5'4 and 110pds) and I have always been really good with my diet. I primarily don't eat any of the foods-besides wine/beer- that aren't allowed but if there is cheese at a party ill have some. I guess I'd really like some feedback on some people who are in my shoes, if you already have a sense of what bothers you and are at a healthy weight did the benefits outweigh the difficulties? What were your benefits, did you lose weight, etc. I'm starting to wonder if its worth it and am doubting my decision to be so restrictive. I did try to remember some of my reasons for doing it to get myself motivated but its not helping, which were 1-get stronger, get some PRs, 2-i want to be in great help before my husband and I start trying to have a baby, 3-I want to see how good I feel afetr putting only healthy foods in my body for a month, 4-I need to kick my dependent achohol habit.

I think my doubt also came into play when i realized we can't snack, which I don't understand why, I like to snack and I choose healthy foods and don't go overboard, such as a half can of tuna fish, to stablize my blood sugars and keep my metablism going. Its very hard for me not to snack because i get lightheaded, I guess the snacking issue without knowing why is really killing this for me.

Any words of widsom from someone who was in a similiar situation?

I'm new myself, so keep that in mind! But I wanted to address the snacking - every "diet" I've ever been on included 5-6 meals a day and even when not dieting I am a grazer. I was really skeptical I could leave out the snacks. It took less than a week for that to change for me. Prior to starting my Whole30, I was having episodes of what felt like low blood sugar, I'm also prediabetic. That stopped, all of it. I'm completely satieted with 3 meals a day, once in a while I have a snack in the afternoons but it's not every day. The days I feel the need for something extra are days I haven't had enough protein and fat in my lunch. Snacking will keep your body from getting the hunger signals between meals, and feeling hungry should be your reason for eating.

Don't get hung up on the weight! While some of us have a bit to lose (like myself!) there is so much more to the program. I know that for me, I need to get my hormones functioning properly before that part will kick in. I would say to reread ISWF, I picked up much more the second time through and the book addresses a multitude of reasons to eat this way.

I hope this helps! Good luck

Leigh

I think your doubts are stemming from some misconceptions about the program.

So the first thing you need to remember is that this is NOT A WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM! Seriously, it is about optimal health, which does not discriminate by weight. Skinny folks, heavy folks, sick folks, healthy folks, athletic folks...it's right for all of them!

Secondly, there is NOT an official "no snacking" rule in place. We discourage snacking because, while functioning optimally, your body shouldn't require food every 2-3 hours. ISWF goes into a little more detail about how and why. The meal template asks you to start with three meals because it's familiar. If you're hungry in between those meals, that's cool...eat!

Truth be told, I snacked during the first half of my w30, because I had to. Then I gradually realized that I wasn't getting hungry between noon and 5, so I just stopped eating.

So now that those have been addressed, I think your goals and reasons for doing this are great and totally fit into the program! It's actually really great for number 2. LOTS of great stuff in these food choices To set you up for having a baby!

Good luck!

Just to echo this for anyone else reading: this is not a weightloss program.

People are hearing about weightloss via a vis the W30 and doing it for that reason. Hopefully they will discover a route to health in the process. But there are a lot of us talking about other stuff besides losing X number of pounds. (Though of course that's always a nice benefit for most.)

It gets easier not to snack as you go along. And it feels great to not think about food all day long. There are also hormonal and digestive benefits outlined in ISWF and on the blog probably.

Thanks for all the insight and knowing there is no official no snacking rule makes this much more doable for me. Sorry if my post mislead people into thinking this is a weight loss program, I am not doing it for weight loss and know there's a ton of other reasons for doing this, it was just what I was hearing alot about and wanted to get some peoples perspectives from people who went into thus with no weight to lose and generally already eating mostly paleo.

I will continue reading it starts with food as I know it has a lot of use info.

Yes, keep reading! I did my first W30 without reading the book, I just combed the website and forums. I made it through 100% compliant, but after I read the book I had sooo many "aha!" and *facepalm* moments. BTW, I didn't lose any weight, but I felt FABULOUS - energetic, slept great, my hair thickened up, and my hubby said my skin looked better & I was more "firm".

And if you're hungry, eat. You'll need a snack here or there as you dial in just how much food you need but once you've got the meals nailed you won't need to snack as much. But keep in mind when you snacked and what your meal was beforehand, so you can add more food the next day to see if that helps with the snacking. You've got this.

It should also be said that your "snack" of tuna is a pretty great choice. Add a bit of homemade mayo for fat and a few carrot sticks and you have yourself a nice 'mini meal' which is what the program advises a "snack" should be. :)
