May 3rd and I am off and running...

Hello- just turned 60 on April 10th and felt it was the perfect time to turn my eating around and get fit once again. I have been one of those people who was naturally thin and could eat whatever I wanted, but slowly the pounds have crept on over the years and my body has felt the toll. I also developed pretty severe GERD and have to take an acid-reducer daily. I am sure it is carbs that cause most of the problems. I am starting a bit ahead of the game because I have been doing a very low carb/no sugar diet for about 3 weeks, so I am already beyond shaking those demons. The bigger challenge for me will be eliminating dairy...I love me some cheese, cream, etc. I am sipping on black coffee as I read this and it just isn't the same but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I am lucky to live in VT where there is a wealth of great farms and healthy foods to choose from which will make this easier to do. Putting in some raised beds soon, so I will always have fresh veggies on hand. Happy that this forum exists for any questions and tips to help make this a success!

Welcome. As someone close to you in age, let me say that after eating this way for a while now, I feel younger than I have in many, many years. Most of my 'age-related' aches and pains turned out to be chronic inflammation in my joints.

Many people here enjoy 'bullet-proof coffee', because the mouth-feel is much closer to that of coffee with cream. Add 1 tsp of ghee and a tsp of coconut oil to black coffee and whirl in a blender for 10 seconds. The amount of ghee and oil can be increased according to your taste. It even comes out looking like coffee with cream in it.
