Food poisoning / allergic reaction last night

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am on Day 21 of my very first Whole30 and enjoying it a lot. I have learned so much about my relationship with food and things I need to do better when the programme ends. I have also been reading this forum religiously to find answers to all of my many questions as I navigate the world on this programme.

I haven't had major issues with wanting to eat non-Whole30 foods. I have had a harder time not bingeing on compliant foods, and have definitely had some food with no brakes moments. Not only around the standard nuts and nut butters, which most people seem to have a hard time with, but even meat! My first question is how I should deal with this? It's not an issue I have seen other people discussing.

Anyhow, last night i made a shimeji mushroom stir-fy for dinner and threw up several times afterward. My body rejected it entirely. I had no idea of any food allergies! What is the way forward from this? Am I ok to continue my Whole30? I had actually planned to do a Whole40, given I had some missteps early on.

Thank you!

Back off from whatever you ate yesterday that upset your stomach. Go with easy-to-digest for a little bit - scrambled eggs, starchy veg (parsnips/carrots/etc.), bone stock (gelatin helps to grab onto whatever is making you sick so it passes out of your system...there's a reason mom gave you chicken soup!), and, if eating still makes you throw up, go for applesauce and bananas (hopefully with some sort of fat you can digest). No, it's not ideal, but there is a reason that even conventional medicine includes them in the BRAT post-stomach issue diet. Once you feel more normal, add things back in.

This could just be food poisoning. Did anyone else eat this and did they feel sick? I've gotten some mild food poisoning off of things that sounds a lot like this, but I've never had an allergic reaction that involved vomiting. So, hopefully something you ate just was off. Either way, I'd play it safe and throw out any leftovers of that meal!

Was this your first time cooking mushrooms on your whole 30? I only ask as I discovered when doing a different grain-free protocol that mushrooms really didn't sit well with me. And it turns out fungi can be a normal intolerance. I will agree with others though vomiting does sound more like a bug or food poisoning.
