Genghis Grill, more specifically Greenville SC

Recommended Posts

Hubs and I talking about Mothers Day, he suggested Genghis Grill (build-your-own mongolian bbq restaurant) as a possibility, since I'd be able to pick my own meats, veggies, seasoning and could skip the starch.

It might be a long shot, but wondering if any Whole30'ers have eaten at Genghis Grill, more specifically the one in Greenville SC, and if they've found out about sugars in seasonings, oils that they cook everything in, etc? I'll end up calling for that info this week, I was just wondering if anyone already has that info? Their website has nutritional info, but very basic, no ingredients listed on seasoning mixes, so I don't know if any of the carbs come from sugar, and it doesn't say what they marinate the meats/cook the dishes with.

If/when I do call this week, are there any other questions I should ask? I know to ask about marinating their meats, sugars in spices (I'm going to assume all their sauces have sugar in some form in them), and what oil they cook the dishes with. Anything else so that I can remain compliant?

Thanks in advance!

I don't live in SC, but I have eaten at a Genshis Grill (not on Whole30, but at other times). The meats are not marinated. You are probably safe guessing that all the sauces contain, a) soy, B) sugar, c) off-limits oils, or d) all of the above. They do not put any oil on the grill that they cook on from what I can tell (you watch them cook your food). If you are concerned, that would be the only thing that I would ask about. They do put something on the grill in between dishes to clean off left over bits of food, but I am pretty certain that it is just water.

If you think you will need a sauce with your meat and veggies, I would stash a bottle of coconut aminos in your purse-- it's a reasonably good soy-sauce substitute. ;)
