Beets
What do you all use when a recipe calls for rice wine? I'm thinking I'll just throw in some apple cider vinegar and coconut aminos (?) but curious if anyone has done something else with good results. Here is the recipe I'm adapting: http://www.spicesoflife.com/2009/01/14/star-anise-beef-stew/ Thanks!

Moderators LadyM Posted May 9, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 9, 2013 Oh, right! Thanks for the correction, Susan. My bad. In that case, I'm not sure what would work for rice wine since it's so sweet. Maybe some fresh squeezed orange juice along with coconut aminos? I think that's part of Well Fed's stir fry sauce that makes it work.
Beets
Great idea. I am just seeing this now but thank you. I made it with coconut aminos and ACV and it was fine. I never tasted it before so I had nothing to compare it to. br /> I had beef stew meat and didn't want the old regular. Was a good change. My husband thought the star anise was overpowering; I liked it. I was trying to find AIP complaint recipes, but I guess star anise is a "be careful" per Paleo Mom anyway. Eh. It was yummy over my gingery sautéed cabbage.
PamH
Dry sherry, apple juice or white grape juice have worked for me. I guess the sherry is out on Whole30? No star anise? I'll have to look that one up. Sauteed cabbage: yum. I'll have to do that tonight.
