Alright you guys its time to put our beautiful little heads together to come up with some vegetables that are as, if not MORE loveable than nightshades. I've been avoiding them for quite some time and hardly misse them. Lately I've had a few, mainly so I can notice upon removing them if my KP clears up. I noticed it flared horribly after the chocolate so I think any gut irritant can do it.

Beets, the article on dairy really gave me resolve to avoid ghee too. Gluten intolerant over here big time, so I think I'll enjoy some infused cocknut oil for this go round.

I hear you with coffee, but it gets better. I love everything about coffee and I haven't had it in about 5 days. I miss it, yes. I just think I am sick enough to put health first. That's just my situation. Taking coffee is an extra tweak that is not obligatory. I feel that if you want to give it up leaving cocoa doesn't make much sense. I am not sure of your reasons of doing AIP, so sorry if I come across harsh. Both coffee and cocoa are gluten cross reactive, that's why they are out for those who want to take it further.

Hmm, I didn't know about the coffee being gluten cross-reactive, which is interesting. I was thinking more along the lines of just adding it in to break the little addiction habit I have going on, and to see if the caffeine is inflammatory at all. I hadn't really thought about cacao being inflammatory as well. I'll look into that more before we start :) (but since I've already told everyone I'm giving up coffee, I'd better man up and do it!)

Did I read the Kresser article too fast and miss something about ghee?

I've avoided all dairy except ghee for more than a year. It acts differently in my body, anyway, likely because the milk solids are removed. Still not sure whether or not I'll take it out for our 10 days.

I think why the part about dairy and gluten sensitivity resonated with me is because ISWF says that ghee does have trace amounts of milk solids remaining. For someone who is not reactive that would be insignificant. But for me, it could be a little something that is holding me back from really healing my gut. Same for chocolate and coffee. I already did a long stretch of IBS/AIP and I felt so good and my digestion was textbook perfect. Once I loosened up the reigns a bit I feel good but not as good as I did (nor do i look as radiant) then and my goal for this time is to get a better idea of what foods are most healing for me. I do not have strong reactions to ghee. I will include I in my future diet- just not on a daily basis I suppose.

Hmm, reading a bit more about the AIP, I don't actually think that I need to do it as the problematic foods are gluten, dairy and nuts. Soooo, I'm just going to do a wee Whole10 sans nuts and coffee before I go away for a weekend instead. Good luck to you all!

I also do not look radiant. Where is the radiance? Spent my early "free" hour (after DD gets up, before DS gets up) looking up affordable effective skin serums instead of exercising, but really eating totally on plan was the best thing I ever did for my skin.

Sugar and dairy really make me look my sun-damaged age. :*(

I do agree Lady M that ghee has many beneficial properties, especially from an Ayurvedic perspective. However, after undoing 40 days of psoriasis mending with two days of stupid eating, I'm ready to totally commit whole hog for ten short days.

I almost bought some of the beef liver sausage from US Wellness, forget the German name, but it is seasoned with coriander. Drat.

I'm taking double doses of FCLO in desperation to stop my skin from itching--and me from scratching it. Is that an issue, do you guys think?

Also, just to make ourselves more crazy, have you guys red about oxalates? Thoughts? I don't have IBS symptoms so I ignored the oxalate stuff I'd read. (Plus it takes out pretty much every veg I enjoy.) But it seems to have importance wrt leaky gut. Ack. It's hard to tell, when you get into these more obscure dietary topics what's real and what's borne of pure desperation.

Just curious. http://health.groups...g_Low_Oxalates/

Beets,

Urgh I did same thing for myself with nuts. My skin is horrible at the moment. Usually it takes 3-4 days after eating something irritating for the inflammation to calm down, hang in there!

Liverwurst is the name :D

I think that 10 days will indicate if you need to tweak further. I actually think that 10 days is not the hardest part. Hardest part will be proper reintro/test of suspects followed by super clean eating again.

I am very determined to stick to super simple food and do this right this time.

Thanks Nadia! I was thinking of this one. http://www.grassland...tail.bok?no=827

Braunschweiger?

I actually used to love liverwurst as a kid! I know I'm a prime candidate for liver but I'm still having trouble making the leap. But I'm gonna do it--soon.

And you are so right about controlled reintro being the tough part. I royally screwed it up after my W30 but I need to be disciplined.

Me too! Not liverwurst, but chicken liver moosh. My grandmother used to make to for me. Along with pre-eggs from butchered chickens. In chicken soup? Those things were the bomb. Like very dense egg yolks.

What's on everyone's shopping lists for AIP? I'll try to hit the food co-op today and pick up wacky veggies. Low fodmaps for me too as I think maybe they are an issue. Got to keep it fresh and new.

I am the opposite this time. I decided to get super safe. I will roast tons of veggies with allowed herbs and buy favorite greens. I will eat a lot of fish because it's easy to dress up. I like it plain too. Meat - balsamic pot roast, mini meatloaves and some game meat as it's pretty yummy without spices (ostrich yesyesyes). I will use my regular matrix for breakfast green+color+flavor booster+protein. For flavor boosters - fresh herbs (my little friends on my window are growing fast), mushrooms (esp shiitake), coconut aminos, bacon, avocado mayo, coconut sour cream, preserved lemons and pickled veggies. Maybe I am missing something and will add.

I love Practical Paleo shopping list as it indicates FODMAps and problematic foods. I will just take it to the market and check as I go.

Here's what I am doing, from Paleo Mom. I will tweak after the ten days but I'm doing this. I will keep my food simple and keep to things I like. Making a meal I don't like will lead to eating nuts and dried fruit.

"It is vitally important to adhere to a strict paleo diet with no cheating. While other people may be able to enjoy the occasional bowl of rice, if you suffer from an autoimmune condition you are not one of these people. Grains and legumes should never be consumed. Dairy of any kind (even grass-fed ghee which can still have trace lactose and dairy proteins!) should be avoided initially (most people will not be able to successfully reintroduce dairy, although some will be okay with grass-fed butter and ghee). This may be true for the rest of your life. In addition, if you have an autoimmune condition, you should completely avoid:

Eggs

Nuts

Seeds (including cocoa, coffee and seed-based spices)

Nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, sweet and hot peppers and spices derived from peppers)

Potential Gluten Cross-Reactive Foods

Alcohol

NSAIDS (like aspirin or ibuprofen)"

I am not sure what "potential gluten cross-reactive foods" are. ??

I should make my own liverwurst! But yeah, mixing with ground beef prob sounds like the safest best, and also a great way to get liver into my kids.

http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/8478-moluvs-aip/page__fromsearch__1

Just read through my AIP log a little to get some meal ideas and saw a couple things I remember liking a lot.

One was burger sliders which I made by slicing thing rounds of sweet pot and browning on cast iron and filling with tiny hamburgers paties, lettuce, pickles and horseradish.

Another was spaghetti squash with creamed avocado mixed in and some chicken I think.

I have not eaten these things since though they were both big hits with the fam.

I'm excited for super clean eating coming up! What a blessing of nourishing and simple foods! Feels good. I will also read through my IBS log for some ideas. I will be following some of those guidelines (especially regarding no raw veggies)

And Beets the paleomom list is what I'm going by too.

Nadia- the link didn't work but I'm on my phone. I need a refreshers on the gluten cross reactors too. Chocolate I hate you. I just can't say that enough.

Yah, I reread that piece. I enjoy her scientific writing. She is a scientist but she can also express herself clearly without dumbing things down--an enjoyable combination. (I hate all the "here comes the sciencey part!" disclaimers in ISWF, but I guess that's necessary to reach a wide audience.)

The thing that freaks me out about her site is she says you need to avoid these things (eggs, nightshades) for months. UGH. I can do anything for ten days but 90?

Help! Help! I just tried to make an avo mayo with cocknut oil. It turned into...souffle? It's very dessert like :D What happened? Most important - how to fix it?

Moluv is the expert on cocknut. I only ever made mine with olive oil. Maybe add more acid in the form of lemon or acv? And/or heat it up so the cocknut is liquid?

Since for the past three weeks or so I've been egg and nightshade free with the odd nut or seed thrown into a salad, I'm not fretting about much of a change in menu for AIP. The biggest shift for me is going to be cutting out ghee and cumin. I'm not messing about with FODMAPs; I find that if I just eat most of my green and cruciferous veg cooked, I'm good. I'm fine with salad greens raw. And since it's all systems go below the waist for me right now, I'm just going to roll with it--and continue my evening magnesium supplement as well as my morning MCT oil (but not in coffee. It's out again, cuz I'm all in, yo). OH, and have I thanked you guys lately for the nudge on that hypnosis recording? I'm using it every night before bed and totally digging it. If nothing else, I think it helps me slip into deeper sleep. Though I do find that I have more conscious thoughts during the day about liking my body. That helps EVERYTHING.

Barging in the door to comment on cocknut (using this from now on) mayo. The cocknut oil solidifies when it cools so the mayo would be more like pots de creme. I am saying this with zero experience with cocknut mayo. It just makes sense in my pea brain. Cocknut. :0)

Cocknut, pooping in the supermarket and crotchpot forever, yes. I used liquid one and it turned into mousse altogether. It tastes strange too. I think it will go to a trash can. I have one

More avo to waste :) If it doesn't work, oh well, I was wondering if they affect me. Out they will be.

cocknut crotchpot..... this is gonna start getting flagged as a porn site! omg....

Anyway, I made my 1st batch of bone broth. In the crotchpot ;). I had lamb and chicken bones. I thew veggie scraps and onion skins (I'm doing low fodmaps, not no fodmaps. Maybe I'll work my way towards none) in for the first 4-6 hours and then took those out and then kept the crockpot on low for 48 hours until BF asked me to turn off the "botulism soup." Plus it was 100 degrees here yesterday so there was a little incongruence. I haven't tasted it yet. I'm scared!

Lots of good stuff on this thread so far that I want to read. Been a maniac for the last couple days but I'm thinking things are gonna calm down after mid-day tomorrow.

Stocked up for AIP at Trader Joe's. I'll hit the food co-op another day.

W30-ish food today, and it feels GOOD.
