Starting Monday, 10/24- looking for support group

Thanks for the reminder about the chicken and broccoli trick, @snowflower. I forget to use it in the moment! Today's my San Francisco trip. I researched a few restaurants and other things to do in SF besides eat and drink to enjoy the city. I also stocked up on nut butter packets, apple sauce squeeze packs, nuts, dried mango, and pumpkin seeds for emergencies. Thanks for the encouragement yesterday, everyone. I'm still in and on day 10.

Thanks, @Eruiel and @tiglilygirl. You guys really helped me change my mental track just now! If anyone has SF restaurant suggestions where you've had good, compliant food, I'm all ears. I have heard the burger place, Roam is a good one.

Does turkey bacon count as a lean meat? I found some compliant turkey bacon at whole foods that was actually the best turkey bacon I've ever had. Wellshire Farms was the brand.

Hey, guys! I'm only on day 9, but last night I REALLY struggled. I'm attending a wedding this weekend and spending the night in San Francisco the night before. It's such a struggle not to eat and drink in SF. That's what that place is made for. I thought seriously about taking a single day break from Whole30 for the night in SF (not the wedding--most wedding food is pretty boring), but then I know that's not a true Whole 30. Anyone have any suggestions for me? My meals today are.. Breakfast: a scramble of homemade turkey sausage, 2 eggs, broccoli Lunch: a little bit of leftover chicken and veggie stir fry with almond satay sauce over a bed of greens, hard boiled egg, pear Dinner: shepherd's pie from the book Pre WO snack: turkey slices and almonds Post WO snack: turkey slices and a small baked sweet potato

Hi, guys! I started October 26, so I'm on day 8. I've been posting mostly in another group that started October 25 or 26, but I thought I'd share here, too, since you guys look like a fun, lively group. I wanted to share a recipe I made last night for chicken and veggie stir fry. http://www.rubiesandradishes.com/2014/02/04/chicken-stir-fry-with-paleo-almond-satay-sauce/ It was time consuming with all the veggie chopping, but you could buy the pre-chopped mixes at the grocery to speed things up. The sauce was excellent. My non-Whole30 boyfriend really liked it. I made him some rice to eat with it, and I ate it over some sauteed broccoli slaw. You could also eat it over cauliflower rice (I saw Trader Joe's carries frozen and refrigerated riced cauliflower). I'm having it for lunch today by itself.

Oct 25 is day 1 of round 3 after a million missteps.

I'm excited to be in week 2! My run yesterday felt so much better than my day 2 run. And I slept really well. I usually have to watch tv to fall asleep and then wake up a few hours later and turn it off. Last night, I just turned it off at 10:30 and fell asleep. My pants feel a little looser today. It's so tempting to weigh myself, but I know that would mess with me psychologically whether there were positive or negative changes. My goal today is not to have a Larabar or Rx Bar. The few I've had felt more emotional than hunger satisfying. I'll save them in case I need them when I travel this weekend. I also wanted to share a recipe I made last night for chicken and veggie stir fry. http://www.rubiesandradishes.com/2014/02/04/chicken-stir-fry-with-paleo-almond-satay-sauce/ It was time consuming with all the veggie chopping, but you could buy the pre-chopped mixes at the grocery to speed things up. I haven't heard from @JisforJennifer, @Gabriela55,or @Bexstoth in a couple days. How's is going, friends?

Way to commit, @Idee! I had the same issue over the weekend and kept eating random-but-compliant stuff that wasn't very satisfying. So I went to Trader Joe's and bought a big bag of sweet potatoes and baked a bunch. I'm storing them in my fridge this week so that I always have an easy carb to base my meal around. I've also stocked up on compliant turkey slices, turkey sausage patties (homemade), and compliant turkey bacon, so there's always a relatively easy protein around. Don't get me wrong; I've still had my jerky-and-almonds and RxBar moments, but prepping these few things helped.

Nice, @Jennifer824! You can get it! I'm excited about magic. I need a little more focus on preparation, too, because this turkey Epic bar I'm eating because I forgot the protein for my salad is really not my jam.

Hi, friends! Are you happy to be past Halloween candy explosion? Last night friends had my boyfriend and me over for scary movies, chili, and beers. Of course there were Reese's pumpkins all over the place, too. I totally spaced that chili has beans in it and thought I'd be fine. How did I forget chili has beans? Anyway, I ate around the beans, which was no easy task, and handed the bean pile to my boyfriend to covertly finish it for me. I drank kombucha again instead of beer, and I ate some compliant food when I got home because a little chili meat wasn't really enough to satisfy me. We haven't talked a lot about physical activity in here. I like to run and go to yoga or spin classes. I have a really hard time strength training independently, and I know building muscle builds metabolism, so I'd like to improve in that area during my Whole 30. What kinds of workouts do you guys do? The Fitnessista (love her blog and her book, neither of which is Whole30-specific, but she posts a lot of compliant recipes and has great workouts) is doing a 7-day reset that starts today. I'm planning to participate while continuing with Whole30 eats, of course. Hopefully it will help me get in some strength training. If you guys are interested, here's a link to the November Knockout Workout that is part of the reset. http://fitnessista.com/2016/10/november-knockout-workout-2/ (I hope linking to this is allowed on this forum? If not, sorry, forum!)

How did the weekend go for everyone? I felt a little tortured while out to dinner at a burger place (bare kale, turkey burger patty, tiny cup of guac), but survived. I didn't drink at my favorite beer spot. I ran and did Pilates. Today I didn't eat anything off plan, but I felt like a cheater. I ate a Larabar and an Rx bar while driving around and running errands. I was hungry, but that felt almost like a binge after the last 4 days. Then I maybe got a little too emotionally involved with the roasted potatoes I made with dinner. I did leave some on the plate, though. I hope I can continue to eat white potatoes and keep bars around for emergencies while using them in the spirit of Whole30. Anyone else struggle with these sort of gray areas? Any advice?

You can have cake next month, @Bexstoth. There will never not be cake. Think if you had it, you'd be so annoyed with yourself. One thing I've found helpful with cravings so far is stopping the thoughts about food I might crave as soon as they turn into a mental image, because that's when I realize I'm fantasizing and might start justifying going off plan. Once I notice I'm picturing an off-plan food in my head, I tell myself, "You're not going to think about that right now," and find something else to think about. It sounds pretty simplistic, but I really find stopping the mental image helps. Sometimes we might not even notice we're fantasizing about foods, and that's what makes it so torturous. Noticing that the food fantasizing is happening has been a big first step for me. I guess this is mindfulness applied to Whole30.

Let's take a moment to laugh at me for replying to my own post. Anyway, I went to the brunch buffet. everyone had mimosas; I stuck with black coffee. I had the omelet guy make me a scramble with spinach, onions, and avocado (I asked him to crack some eggs and not use the egg mix with milk in it and confirmed he was using olive oil in the pan), and I got a load of fruit on the side. It's a good start to day 4!

Looks pretty good! You might ask about what they cook the chicken IN (hopefully not butter) and what kind of oils they use in the rest of it.

Any experience with brunch buffets around here? I know the place I'm going does omelets to order.

Guys, my day 3 went surprisingly well. I had my friends over for pumpkin carving, pizza, and beer and I had none. I put my GTs gingerade kombucha in a pint glass and drank La Croix as well. I made compliant turkey bacon (found it at whole foods) wrapped dates for apps. I filled some with goat cheese for guests and filled mine with almond butter. So good! I also made a spinach salad with roasted kabocha squash, pomegranate seeds, red onion, and my own compliant dressing. I was so satisfied and didn't have trouble not eating the pizza. I'm usually a pizza-beer monster. @Gabriela55 Great idea to put the kombucha in a boozier type glass. And next time I host, chili is on the menu. Perfect, thanks!
