    February 15th--Let's Do This

Congrats everyone!! I am stopping now. I haven't eaten anything off-W30 yet today but anticipate I will tonight. Probably some vegetarian sushi - which is rice AND soy but I'm not all that afraid of rice.

It's a lot of people for a long time, either way :). Tofu also seems a lot more natural than a lot of soy products.

Thanks for the links. Based on the fact that the Chinese have been eating it for almost 2000 years, I think I'm going to keep tofu (we eat it about once a week), but try to cut out most of the rest of the soy sources out there.

We eat a lot of tofu in my house - is there a reason we should stop? (assuming reintro goes well, that is)

    First time Whole30er-Day 3- HELP!

I used coffee with coconut milk and sparkling water to get me through those first few afternoons. It really made a big difference. Just sitting there eating/drinking nothing while I worked was the hardest part at first. Now it's easy.

Yay for Day 30! I am so psyched. I did weigh a couple days ago because I could see that my belly was already expanding, so I wanted an apples-to-apples comparison. (before the mods jump in, I got pregnant during my W30, so I weighed at that point so that I could make a true comparison without pregnancy weight changes muddying the waters). I'm not sure what I'm doing in terms of reintroduction because my appetite is so finicky now. The leftover shepherd's pie is sitting in my fridge - I cannot handle it. I did make a pot of chocolate chili from the Well Fed blog (with 2 full Tbsp of cocoa powder, which made a difference) and I'm looking forward to that today with some avocados and fresh jalepeno. It's a bit of a bummer because I won't be having a glass of beer or wine tomorrow night, which I was really looking forward to. I also wanted to start with some sushi, which is another nay - although I guess I could get vegetarian or cooked rolls. I really shouldn't complain though , this is all good stuff.

About the creamers and headaches on day Two

Thai Kitchen is a brand of canned coconut milk, and yes, it is compliant.

About the creamers and headaches on day Two

I use plain canned coconut milk. I'm on Day 29 and have tried a bunch of brands, and the best one to me is Thai Kitchen (full fat, not lite). You have to stir it well but it turns into a nice creamy consistency. I tried just going with black coffee and it was too harsh - but the coconut milk makes coffee drinkable. It's not as good as real creamer but it gets you through the month.

So I'm mid-week 5 of my pregnancy and W30 food is just not appealing to me. Good thing today is Day 29. I will not be able to make it much further without bland starchy food.

Thanks, this is great info. I haven't picked up the book in a while and probably should.

I'm so bummed that I didn't buy ingredients for chili yesterday. It's a snow day here in MA today, and I really want to make chili. Also I really want hot cocoa, but that's a totally different story... Super excited that this Day 28!

I made shepherd's pie from the W30 book and it was pretty good. Served it with baked apples (just cinnamon on mine, cinnamon and sugar on my daughter's). I'm afraid of re-introducing sugar, even if it's only at night or on weekends. I fear that just a little, especially if I eat it daily, will send me back on the sugar-coaster. On the other hand, I have no desire to eat W30 indefinitely. I'm not sure what to do.

NSV - my big one is that I got a BFP! I went 4.5 years without one after my daughter was born in 2012, was pregnant over the fall (unfortunately lost the baby), but then only three months after that loss, on Whole 30 Day 20, I got the BFP. I haven't conceived this fast since I was 32. It's crazy. I googled it to see if it was safe to stay on W30, which it turns out it is, but also what I found is that apparently this is a common occurrence, so that's why I'm counting it as a W30-related NSV. Others - I think about food and snacks way less. I'm only craving carbs/sweets after dinner now instead of starting after lunch and lasting the rest of the day. I have no more energy crashes in the afternoon - energy level is much steadier through the day. I think I'm sleeping better but I can't confirm that completely. I don't get hangry anymore.

This is awesome. You are articulating this well...I think the same thing is happening to me. I'm not obsessed with my next snack anymore. I even drove for a few hours yesterday without feeling the absolute need for something to sip while in the car, which had previously become an almost unbreakable ingrained habit.

    February 15th--Let's Do This

Wanted to quit so many times this weekend...I have been subject to a lot of restaurant meals over the past 8 days or so and it's so tough to special order something I don't even like that much when all this delicious food is on the menu. Plus I was in Chicago for work, where I used to live, and I saw all kinds of things I don't get at home now, like Portillo's chocolate cake shakes and my favorite bubble tea place, and I never got to take advantage of any of them. I do much, much better eating food I make at home where I can customize to how I like it. Tonight I was at my parents' house, where I grew up, and we went out to dinner, and I had to skip all the local favorites and have a salad with grilled chicken and oil and vinegar, which is so not my thing. Anyway, I'm ready for it to be over.
