NSV stuff - I am currently wearing pants that I was unable to wear at all when I first bought them (about six weeks ago) and they currently fit comfortably, and I have been getting a good number of comments from people at the gym and at work about looking like I have lost weight. I've been working out a lot and it is showing in that I am freaking exhausted. I've been doing doubles (spin class in the morning and at night) and I haven't been getting enough sleep so I am really feeling it. Probably going to just do a single tomorrow and then skip Friday altogether. Re-introduction... I think my first meal off is just going to be regular smoked sausage along with those hashbrowns in the green bag from the refrigerated section of the grocery store along with my usual local pastured eggs. I might even put some ketchup on the hashbrowns!

Day 25 and I'm still here. Went on a rafting trip with the kids and managed to not only stick to the diet but to enjoy two really awesome meals out in restaurants. I'm in a weight-loss competition with some guys from work so I will be going beyond 30 with some modification. Namely I plan to enjoy some friggin sugar free gum! I'm sure there will be more but that one seems significant for some reason.

Tiger Blood Day 1! I slept through the night! 10-5 which is much better than waking up over and over. My legs were VERY sore this morning when I stood up out of bed. I didn't want to go spin class and I actually got back in bed. Since I was well rested for a change I didn't instantly fall back asleep. I layed there for five minutes and knew I would be disappointed if I didn't go so I got up and went. There is no class tonight and I have to work tomorrow and may or may not be able to get a class in so I am very happy that I made it. I feel great. Lots of energy and positive moods. I went on a long walk for lunch. Anyway, all good things.

Day 14 Second day in a row I made it to the morning spin class! Was able to do a double yesterday and will be doing another double today and I am loving it. My calves started to cramp up a little at the end of last night's class so I made sure to eat a giant banana after this morning's class. I am feeling great, my mood is up and I am once again enthusiastic about Whole30. The weekend was kind of rough but I knew it would be so I was prepared. I reactivated my membership at BJs for the express purpose of buying avocados that weren't $2.50 a piece. Picked up a giant container of mushrooms, more spinach, more kale, and more collards. My fridge is jam packed with fresh veggies and I am looking forward to emptying it over the next few days. The only issue that persists is the sleep thing. I am waking up multiple times at night and I am pretty sleep right now, planning to go to bed at dark with no TV tonight and just see how it goes, maybe after a bath. Yesterday was my third dose of Natural Calm and the negative side effect has passed, hopefully I will be feeling more of the positive side effect (sleep) tonight. Elevated moods can make it hard for me to sleep, so I know this isn't just caused by the diet, but any tips would be appreciated.

Mood disorder here (Bipolar I) and my anecdotal evidence suggests that Whole30 (after the initial moodiness) helps with overall mood stability. Even when coming off of it as long as I am cooking ahead and actually planning my meals instead of just eating whatever it seems to help. I have been eating one sweet potato a day pretty much every day. For the first week they were smallish (fist sized) but have moved up to about 1 1/2 fists now. I usually have them with dinner which is after spin class. They work pretty well as a ghee and balsamic vinegar delivery method. I am on day 12 here and the weekend was kind of rough but I made it through. Went on a rather hot hiking trip with the kids and the dog on Saturday. Ate a big breakfast (two green peppers, one onion, and three eggs cooked in ghee along with sausage), packed a snack (raw nuts, coconut, dates) and a steak for the ride back. We "only" did five miles, usually we do 8-10. but it was rather strenuous so it felt about right when it was all over. Things are going pretty well NSV wise as I am wearing pants that I haven't been able to fit into in a while and I have moved up one hole in the belt. Edited to add: I had what I would usually call a using dream last night (addict/alcoholic speak). In the dream I had a cheeseburger with very salty fries, when I woke up I was pretty discouraged until I realized it had been a dream.

Day 7! How normal are sleep issues? I am working out slightly more than normal after starting the diet (was doing 4-5 spin classes a week for a couple of months, did a double yesterday, lots of extra walking w/ the doggo) and I am having trouble staying awake in the evening, but then in the morning I am waking up WAY before my alarm goes off. Like this morning I woke up at 4:45am and was planning on getting up at 6:00 to take a nice long walk with the dog, cook a nice breakfast, and shower and whatever. I am drinking caffeine (3-4 cups of coffee) but I switch to herbal teas (no caffeine) along with constant water a little after lunch. The food has been mostly going great, I've been planning ahead which is essential. I had a mood issue yesterday afternoon which I assume was exacerbated by the diet but I can't blame everything on it.

Day six and I'm feeling really good. My energy is coming back which is great. Hit spin class last night and then again this morning before work. Made two ny strips last night (cast iron skillet w/ homemade ghee), had one for dinner with a sweet potato and sauteed spinach and arugula. Had the same thing for breakfast (1/2 a steak) and now I'm eating the same for lunch. I'm having an egg free day because I don't want to tire of them. Going to head downstairs to the farmers market for some cucumbers and to see what other interesting things they have at reasonable prices. Good day!

It is by percentages. The initial weigh-in was on May 31st. At the end of June we will all put in $25 and the person that has lost the highest percentage gets the pot, the 2nd place person gets their money back. Same thing at the end of July. Then at the end of August we all put in $50 and it's winner take all by percentage over the whole competition. There are 10 people and we are very competitive so we should be able to stay motivated throughout and really lose a good bit. I had two of the other guys in the competition join me doing Whole30. I did this to have people to commiserate with in person, and because the point is for us to lose weight and get healthier and I want them to succeed in that. That being said, I could see some peanut m&ms or doughnuts randomly appearing on people's desks towards the end of the competition. Like I said we are very competitive.

The more the merrier? I also started on the 1st, and this is my 3rd time doing Whole30. The first time was great but I had trouble the second time and ended up stopping at 28 days. Today is day five and things have been progressing as expected. There was some difficulty with lunch today but having stuff prepared really helped out. We had lunch brought into the office and I ordered what would have been a compliant chef salad (nitrate but they covered it in cheese and instead of picking it out and doing "good enough" I gave it to someone else and went to town on the frittata (local pastured eggs, onions, green peppers, and boston butt, then covered in jalapeno verde) I brought to work to have on hand. On Saturday I had hoped to do two back to back spin classes (RPM) but due to the low energy on day three I was struggling towards the end of the 1st class and decided to forgo the second one. I did walk all over the neighborhood with the dog on Saturday (+4 miles and a DIY bath at the new pet store), then Sunday we walked to the park with a book and a blanket and had a really nice time. I am in a weight loss competition at work that will run for three months, my goal is to win but I will be happy with just being able to lose weight and keep it off during the summer. My initial weigh-in was 237 fully clothed (ouch!), I'm 6'4 and 43 years old. One advantage I have (in addition to being able to enjoy black coffee) is that I am an alcoholic and have been sober for five and a half years so not being able to drink on the diet doesn't affect me at all.
