I've reintroduced every category at this point (slowly but definitely did not follow the suggestions in the book). I haven't noticed any particular issues - I guess I'm lucky in that regard! I've continued to eat very healthy and have only had a little bit of sugar - and I could definitely feel the sugar dragon coming out when I did. I'm motivated to continue the health kick for one more week because after that I'm off to Mexico and all diets are off!! @SalW @Shelly :) OMG those MINI eggs are my absolute downfall - I just hope I don't see any until Easter is over and they are out of the stores! I can't wait to eat dark chocolate again - but will wait until after vacation to reintroduce. As for alcohol - I've had the same experiences - cheap drunk + hate the brain fog the next day. Yet it's Friday night and the wine is calling my name!

@ladyshanny Point taken! I feel very healthy and am very proud that I made it through the 30 days! I think I do still have some diet drama in my mind leftover from my younger days. Need to say goodbye to that forever!

@ShannonM816 Actually I meant "hungry" in a good way - not that I am starving - but rather, I can tell that I'm eating less and my stomach is grumbling a bit. I could tell that my stomach was shrinking over time, which is good, right? I followed the template pretty well but usually did a small snack in between lunch and dinner because I was actually hungry for it. At this point I'm not planning to do another Whole30 but I'm curious to know if you think that the snack is what kept me from losing more weight. My husband did the same thing but he lost twice as much as me! (I know, I know this is not supposed to be about weight loss.....but still curious)

Congrats everyone for finishing the Whole30!! My husband and I celebrated with champagne! I have to admit I was pretty discouraged when I got on the scale and saw that I had only lost 3 pounds. Today it is up to 4 pounds. I was hoping for more. My husband lost 8 pounds which did not help. I know it is not specifically a weight loss diet but after restricting so much and being quite hungry a lot of the time I expected more weight loss. Oh well. I'm not overweight BTW - just not wanting to give in to the middle-age weight gain that is so clearly happening to me at 53 years old. On a positive note, I do feel lighter, my pants fit better and I lost 1/2 inch in my waist. Reintroduced dairy yesterday and it seems to be going fine. Loooooove having milk in my coffee - it's the best part of my day!

I'm still here too! And eagerly anticipating a glass of wine tomorrow night! I think I'm starting with dairy tomorrow so I can put real milk in my coffee. I've never suspected a food intolerance so I'm not too worried about the reintroduction. Obviously I don't want to go too fast. We're going to a dinner party Friday night so that should be interesting to navigate whatever food is being served. I'm less interested in sugar but really excited about adding back things like rice and oatmeal! It will be fun to compare notes about our reintroduction.....very curious to see if I've lost a few pounds!

Only 3 days left - woo-hooo!! I'm starting to think about my reintroduction plan. Those of you who have done this before - any recommendations for what to reintroduce first (besides wine - LOL!)? My husband was thinking dairy - which sounds good to me! I know the book recommends doing legumes first although I'm not sure if there is a specific reason for that. @Sunshine2020 Thanks for the kind words! Hope you don't feel bad about the cookie episode. Life happens and sometimes you can't keep control over everything. Best of luck with your next one!

@Sunshine2020 Yes I have spoken with my doc about the hot flashes but they have gotten worse at night so I think I will talk to her again. I've been hesitant to do the hormone replacement but I might need to consider it temporarily - for my own sanity!

@SalW I was super cranky yesterday too! The weekends seem to do that to me - I guess because there are no special treats or wine involved. I've also been super tired and had a bit of headache. Not sure if it's because I haven't been sleeping well or if it's related to the diet. You are so lucky you are having fewer hot flashes! I don't have many during the day - my problem is at night. Once I wake up with a hot flash I am wide awake and have trouble getting back to sleep. Since the diet doesn't seem to be helping I guess I'll have to look into other solutions, although the natural remedies like black cohosh and essential oils really haven't helped me at all. Anyway - back to food prep - we've got a pork roast planned for tonight and I'm going to do the spaghetti squash with meat sauce again this week and maybe a chicken/veggie curry on top of butternut squash noodles! Hang in there everyone!

Day 19 - whew! We're almost 2/3 done with this thing! One one hand I really feel like I'm in the groove with this way of eating. I don't think about it all that much anymore - I just do it. On a positive note, I can tell my stomach is flatter and I feel a bit lighter. Emotionally it has been interesting to notice my desire to reward myself with food - whether it's for working hard, boredom or a weekend treat. Because I can't have those food rewards, I've been more mindful of other things - like appreciating conversations with my family, a sunny day or certain smells. Definitely helping me live in the present! One bummer is that I was hoping this would help lessen my nightly hot flashes and that I would sleep better - but that is not happening. @dnewc that chocolate strawberry idea is tempting.....I had 1/2 of a chocolate RX bar the other day and it was definitely a treat! @Shelly :) I want to try that hibiscus kombucha! We make our own and I've been loving our mango version lately. It's like a pseudo cocktail while I'm making dinner!

Sorry I haven't been in here much - life has been busy! Things are going surprisingly well. Sure, I feel crabby when I can't eat something (like the cookies my son baked the other day) or drink wine on the weekend - but physically, I've really been feeling fine. Just a couple of headaches and a bit more tired than usual some days. Can't wait for that tiger blood to kick in! My husband and I have been cooking up a storm! Chicken curry, grilled salmon, ribs, meat sauce on top of spaghetti squash. He made some yummy egg & veggie "muffins" that are great for weekday breakfasts and I usually have a nice big salad for lunch. I have to admit, I'm dreaming about the day it's all over though. I'm kind of getting sick of meat and eggs. They say days 10 and 11 are some of the hardest days to get through so hang in there ladies!

So happy to see this thread has taken off - and happy to have some virtual companions along for the next 30 days! So far so good over here - my husband and I prepped a ton over the weekend - lots of roasted veggies and hard boiled eggs. I did have a slight headache this morning - Day 3 - which may have been detox related, but I'm fine now. We had our first experience eating out - a Valentine's Day lunch at a totally healthy restaurant - yet it was surprising how little we could order. I ended up with a salad but I had to leave off a bunch of stuff and add some plain chicken. I hope to avoid eating out very often! Luckily I work from home so I'm not tempted to go out for lunch! How are you all doing so far? Micaela
  13. Hey there! My husband and I are starting our first ever Whole 30 on Monday, Feb. 12. We both love to cook so we're not worried from that angle. We have 2 teenage sons who eat a ton (but will not be doing the Whole 30) so it will be a challenge to make food for them as well as us. We are both in our 50's and are not overweight but have gained some weight in middle-age that we are finding hard to get rid of. Hoping that the Whole 30 will be instrumental in getting rid of a few pounds! I'm also hoping it will help with hot flashes and sleep issues. Excited to follow along with anyone else doing the Whole 30 around this time! Micaela (in Minneapolis, MN)
