Regarding leftover egg whites: beat 2-3 whites until soft peaks form, add in a bit of liquid honey and continue beating until glossy and smooth. Paint onto your (clean and dry) face and allow to dry over 10-15 minutes. Peel it off and wash your wash with warm water. Ta Da! Smooth, tightened skin. If you're prone to blackheads, add a packet of gelatin to the mix before beating, the resulting mix will pull blackheads when you remove the mask.

Day 4 was crazy busy! I managed to drag a few of my co-workers out to the nearby river valley for a walk and a hike up some stairs (60-70 steps with a 30 metre break and a final 40 step slog). We all had a good time laughing and avoiding any work talk, though I was still sore from yoga the night before. After work I had to go meet my physiotherapist, and ended up sweaty and loaded with happy hormones by the end as she had me doing agility work on a trampoline to build up my crummy knee. Needless to say, I was tired, starving and craving nothing so much as a chocolate milkshake by the time I ran my chores and headed home at 8. So glad I had prepared my dinner plate in advance and just had to heat it up. Steamy broccoli slaw, spicy vinegar dressing, a few slices of uncured ham and a load of home-made hot mustard. Afterwards I gave in to my exhaustion and slept for 10 hours. Feeling 10X better today

    Alberta Whole30ers?

We're trying to arrange for some weekday evening meetups too, for those who are not early risers. We should have something hashed out this Saturday morning. If you join our little group online you can offer up suggestions as to activities and events, even just coffee chats.

Today was interesting, I had a business lunch and browsed the listed menu ahead of time. I ended up ordering roasted chicken and double veg to avoid the (bread-thickened Romesco) sauce and taters they offered. A chat with my companions over the reasoning behind my choice and one of the other diners went ahead and ordered the same thing, with the intent to do a little reading on Paleo afterwards. Fair enough, she certainly gave me plenty of homework

Day 2 is fun so far. I woke up before my alarm with piles of energy so I clarified some butter and made hollandaise sauce, then roasted asparagus and mushrooms, added the egg whites and a spare egg, and ate the whole mess with sauce on top. I felt great enough to do a lunch-hour walk and stair climb through the river valley with a co-worker. I think I got her interested in this whole Paleo thing Now, nomming my meat/veg/liver loaf and trying to get some work done... sort of.

Day 1 is cooking day for me. I've made a meat/veg/ground liver loaf and sliced it up, packed for lunches at work. With that, plus roasted lemony broccoli, a handful of cherry tomatoes and a bit of tomato paste with roasted garlic instead of ketchup - lunch looks good. Dinner tonight will be smoked, uncured ham with hot mustard, more of the tasty broccoli and a big pot of herbal tea. Yum! I might have to up the carbs though if today's workout is any sign of things to come.

Your Top 3 Go-To Veggie Recipes

    1. Broccoli florets tossed in olive oil, smoked salt and salted lemon peel diced finely: roast on a foil wrapped baking tray at 400*F for 15-20 minutes until crispy at the edges. 2. Kale/collards/mustard greens sautéed with thinly sliced onion, several cloves of crushed garlic and some clarified butter, add a splash of quality fish sauce or anchovies for salt and cover. I like to use a cast iron skillet for these, cooks up in 8-10 minutes depending on how well done you like your greens. 3. French radishes, steamed and tossed with clarified butter and a squeeze of lemon juice when serving. Soooo good!

I'm in. This will be my first Whole30, but I've been mostly Paleo/Primal for the last two years. I do swing back and forth between compliance and going back to my old ways of baking cookies and cakes for friends and family every week. Just getting over a sugar/fast food kick that's been making me feel icky for a few weeks. April sounds like a good time to go all in and get this out of my system for good. ~ Jasmine
