Starting the Whole30 Nov. 1

Way to go, Leeny! I haven't been 100% compliant either, but will do another Whole30 (completely compliant) after I finish this one in a couple of days. My road trip was a little more difficult than I had anticipated. Can't answer the bean question. I love beans but have done without them these past 27 days. You can reintroduce them into your diet to see how they affect you.

Leeny, if you have It Starts With Food, Melissa and Dallas explain why exactly some foods are out during the program. Beans/legumes are in the same category as grains. Now, I don't remember everything, but a main concern was that they contain a lot of phytates (or phytic acid) which binds to most nutrients, preventing you from absorbing them. They can also cause damage in the gut (hence their gassy reputation). And they are not even nutritionaly dense: way to much carbs for the nutrients payoff.
