    February 27 - Newbie Start Date!! Join!!!

    Day 31 - I did it. So glad I did, as I learned so much. I've mentioned here before the results weren't that great for me, but I'm still glad I did the entire 30 day period. I lost 6lbs which is not that impressive. My husband lost 10lbs, but honestly I think that is due to the fact he was a big evening snacker, which was eliminated for the program. My energy was never improved greatly, and work outs never did get much easier, so I exercised less! I really began to be worried about the high fat content of coconut milk, cooking fat, not to mention a lot of the meat. I did a short rib recipe from the W30 book on Sunday and the veggies I cooked with them were literally swimming in fat. I never cooked that way before, and I just can't do it for the sake of what the books say. I learned several new cooking techniques and tried a lot of new recipes and LOVE my new immersion blender. I may never buy mayo again, the homemade stuff is so good. I worked veggies into every meal, and that's going to stay. I got an invaluable awareness of whats in our food, primarily sugar in many forms. Yikes! Even my favorite taco seasoning has sugar! Not to mention long ingredient lists full of words I can't pronounce. No more. Will I do it again? Maybe. Will I subscribe to the lifestyle on an ongoing basis? Parts of it. I know several people who have done it and subscribe to the program 360 days a year, but the expense, insane planning/prep and difficulty being compliant while traveling just aren't feasible for my daily life. Moderation, awareness and good choices will be my program. And I'm very glad I had this 6 week period to study and apply the W30 principles. It's a great base for a lifetime of healthy choices. Well done fellow Feb 27 Newbies. Well done. Onward to a healthier life!

    February 27 - Newbie Start Date!! Join!!!

    Shopping for the week is strange! What's for dinner? My 30 days is up Monday so Tuesday is reintroduction. Starting with a little dairy, I never ate much, but a few items have been missed. Sugar will always be a concern, and avoided (!) but rice, some lugunes in moderation are a request oh my husband will be introduced. If I felt substantialy better on W30 I would live the lifestyle. But I just don't, so it's not worth the endless planning & prep, not to mention high fat content, to continue as a life long practice. Guess I'm one of the small percentage for which it doesn't provide results. That is disheartening. But hey, I can say I committed myself to the program and worked hard to complete the program. That feels good.

    February 27 - Newbie Start Date!! Join!!!

    Day 27 We're having dinner at a friend's house on Saturday, and I decided to say "Hey can I bring a side and/or salad, and what we want to grill?" This opened up a long I/M about what we're doing, our restrictions, why, etc. I'm very proud of myself for standing up for my husband and me. That will be day 28 for us and no way am I going to blow it that close to the end! I'm still not feeling tiger blood, my sleep is pretty good, but I still have some insomnia most nights, headaches I thought were due to sugar are still plaguing me and my clothes are not fitting much differently. BUT, I know I'm eating the right foods, and good habits have been formed over the last 4 weeks! Especially cutting out snacking on food with no brakes. That one thing will change my life. Sugar is in everything, we know that. But I was so shocked to see it in a bottle of fresh horseradish! Seriously? Shouldn't that just be horseradish? Makes a case for buying the fresh stuff and grinding it myself. Which kind of is the base layer of W30 - start with real, whole food and create what you need to suit your taste/recipe. My all-time favorite W30 recipe is Zuppa Tuscano, which I made last night after an unexpected wintery day. YUM. My husband even asked if we could have it when we're back to "normal" food. The kale is such a nice, fresh addition to a hearty, creamy soup. I also added some celery for crunch and a few fresh herbs I had on hand. I love soup of all kinds, and this was on the table in less than an hour. And guess what's for lunch? My favorite resources are Trader Joes and Pinterest. I also have new very expanded view of Amazon! I'm very interested to see what day 31 looks like for me. Will my outlook change? Will I make poor choices because I have "permission?" What will my weekend grocery shop look like? Whats for dinner? I will follow the re-introduction but it will be really interesting to see what choices I make moving forward. I think they'll be influenced by this program for my lifetime!

    All foods are compliant Breakfast hard boiled eggs with mayo, celery and 2 pc bacon on bed of baby spinach lunch turkey/beef meatballs with Brussels sprouts and green grapes Dinner meatballs and W30 tomato sauce on zoodles sleep:6 to 7 hours on week nights, 8 to 9 on weekends, interrupted by one wakeful period of about 20 minutes at 3am or so. workout: 45 - 50 minutes cardio and strength training M-F, Saturday Pilates class, Sunday rest. I'm doing everything right. Just not feeling the results.

    Day 22 I'm not gonna lie, I'm feeling a little defeated. I'm not noticing much change the last week, my clothes aren't any loser than they were on day 1, I don't have the tiger blood so many speak of and I'm so sick of spending my weekends shopping/prepping. I'm not giving up, I'm too close to the end to bail now. And I will definitely adopt the principals of W30 in my daily life. But I am missing the "Holy crap I feel great, I'm glowing and my clothes are almost too big" that so many report. Sad face.

    It is a real addiction, and fuels the "food with no brakes" like jet fuel! Whenever there were sweet treats at the office, I would take one, and find some way to go back for more, to get one "for my coworker" or even try to be super incognito so no one would see I was eating enough for 4 people. Always left me feeling sick, disgusted and wanting more. My company gives us a pre-loaded credit card to buy junk from the break room, and it was not uncommon for me to move right from the Krispy Kreams to bags of Reeces Pieces, M&Ms or an ice cream bar. Suddenly I've consumed 1,000 calories in sugar, fat and processed flour. My husband travels a fair amount, and when he was out of town I would just go crazy. No one to watch me, no one to see the empty ice cream carton or cookie package I just bought. So much like a drug addict hiding their drug use or alcoholic sneaking booze. When I quit drinking I had immediate health benefits, and noticed a difference every single day. I feel the same way about sugar today. I'm a better person, physically and mentally without the sugar dragon on my back! Better sleep, healthier nails and generally feeling so much better! So glad I found this program

    I so admire your admission and sharing your struggles. You are brave! I believe sugar is a mind altering substance just like alcohol and heroin. It is for me, I could eat piles of skittles and Jelly Bellys and even as a kid I would tuck into a huge bag of M&Ms and eat until I was sick. I quit sugar for a couple of years, but drank a lot wine - just another form of sugar. When I gave up alcohol altogether 8 years ago, man oh man did I go after sugar! There are bakeries in Mexico, where I live part time and vacation often, that are a wonder. It's all self serve, you get a tray and tongs and wander through the racks of Mexican pastry & cookies. My ritual when we did our first vacation shop was to fill that tray with as many cookies, pastries and cakes as I wanted. You take it to the counter and they bag and price the haul, I always had at least 2 bags. I justified it because Mexican baked goods aren't overly sweeet, but the bags would soon be drenched in grease and full of crumbly sugar crumbs. I would always tuck into one of the bags before we go to the house, a good hour drive. The rest of vacation was a binge. "On vacation" meant baked goods all day. I would return from vacation just as bloated and puffy as I would have been binging on alcohol. Ill never go back to that addiction. I'm grateful I was able to break the binge cycle with Whole30. I had literal withdrawals on about day 3. Sweats, headache, nausea and chills. I'm clean of sugar now and it feels pretty damn good. Never again. Thank you for sharing TeacherFitJourney - you inspire me to be as scared of sugar as I need to be.

    Day 19 I went to the Dr. today, and we had to discuss my weight based on another factor. This is the same doc who suggested W30 in the first place so I've got her support. However we did look at the scale to discuss other factors. Wow, what a disappointment. I guess I now know why it's not allowed, but I was seriously shocked at how low the loss number was. I won't look again until Day 31, but with 12 days to go I can't see much room for anything significant. On a food prep note, I couldn't get mayo to emulsify to save my life yesterday. I make this often, with no issues. I tried 4 different batches before I gave up. The only thing that is different is the carton of eggs. I got an 18 pack of organic brown eggs, and there is obviously something wrong. (Too fresh maybe?) So I need to buy different eggs and try again. I use it a lot! I ordered the Well Fed I cook book yesterday as well. It has some great reviews, and the sample I downloaded has some great info on meal planning, mass-prep and lots of new recipes. It will be here Saturday just in time for next week's meal planning! My new favorite ingredient is baby spinach. You can put just about anything on a bed of baby spinach and it tastes good. I know I need more leafy greens, so this is my newest tool to getting enough. Baby spinach is pretty mild and really tasty. I had it with hard boiled eggs today and it was really good! Go do great things today everyone!

    I've read corn tortillas are compliant after the initial 30 day program, which is great news since I love them with fish tacos. We were in a dangerous rut, where dinner was whatever we could stuff in a wheat tortilla. I think a nice taco salad on a small corn tostada (post 30Day obviously) sounds like a better alternative. My choices will forever be changed by this gig!

    February 27 - Newbie Start Date!! Join!!!

    Day 16 This week's meal planning was a little easier, and I didn't spend hours and hours in the kitchen Sunday so I'm either better organized or just less overwhelmed! I love the enthusiasm of everyone at this half-way point. I'm seeing changes too - my nails are stronger, I sleep much better. I think I'm still in vegetable deficit though, I can't seem to work enough of them into my menus. I wish my clothes were loser... I know I've learned so much already, and been forced to try new things (like how to make dinner without including tortillas in some fashion!) I think what I've learned the most though is this is not a 30-day challenge. This is life. For me anyway, I'll never let sugar creep back in. I am an addict, and addition is a disease, whether sugar or other substance. I will most likely avoid bread of any kind, with only occasional tortillas (I live in Mexico part time, I can't give them up totally!) I used to have yogurt every morning, and even if it was plain Greek yogurt with fruit, I think that set me up for hunger later. Dairy will definitely be limited in my new life. But clean, real food is good food, and that is worth keeping for a lifetime of 30-days at a time!

    I "we're all just chugging along" is about right! I'm feeling like I'm in a groove but still don't have much of an appetite. My energy during my workout was down as well, but I don't know if that is still leftover from the first days of no carbs or because I've been too tired to work out! I passed up doughnuts, bagels, coffee with CREAM (I miss that so much) and a buffet lunch of really high end and delicious looking sandwiches and side salads. My "treat" was red grapes with lunch. Amazing how fruit is seriously a treat these days. I used it eat it without brakes, so this program taught me the value of moderation with fruit. Weight Watchers makes all fruits and veggies "FREE" points, and they say to eat as much as you want. I now see the folly in eating a huge bowl of watermelon for lunch. Every day a new lesson. My meal planning for next week is done, and is a nice variety of repeats and new menus. Another skill I learned, planning instead of just going to the grociery store and buying a bunch of groceries! Much less wasteful this way

    Day 12 Feeling lots better today, not nearly as nauseous and eating what I am supposed to. I don't think I like egg fritatta. I had to force it down today, so there goes a good way to get veggies with breakfast. If I'm lacking in anything it's the leafy green stuff. Maybe TMI, but I am super plugged. I thought by day 12 I would be used to the foods, but nope. Even exercise and coffee don't do the trick. Another day another symptom! I did have the chance to give up yesterday. I made some W30 compliant clam chowder, but at the last minute I couldn't bring myself to add coconut milk. I just don't know how it would impact the flavor, and it was a special treat for my sick husband. So I added whole milk with arrow root powder (love that stuff, Ill never use flour again for thickening!) and it looked so good! And tummy soothing and just good. I make some killer soups, and this was no exception. I could have given in and had that for dinner with my guy, but I didn't even taste it. I froze what's left and made roasted sweet potatoes with chicken/apple sausage and a salad. So much more work but NO WAY am I giving up on freaking day 12! Small victory, but Ill take it!

    "The feeling of being hungry but not finding compliant foods appetizing" YES, that is where I am. I make a pretty killer pumpkin custard (bananas, pumpkin, coconut milk, eggs, pecans) and it seems that's the only thing I can choke down. NOT enough nutrition and I'm going to get sick of that quickly. Really hoping this passes. Not eating enough does terrible things to your metabolism...
