June 1 Reset Start - Let's do this (again)!!

@iteach I hear you on the water issue! I truly struggle with that one. If I had a dollar for every time I have left my *full* water bottle sitting on the counter when I head off to work, well I'd have enough money to buy hundreds of water bottles - and still forget to drink enough water! I'm going to chose to be inspired by you and make a point of remembering my water when I head to work tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes!

Yay for hobbies! I love to refinish furniture, but haven't had the time in quite a while. The table sounds like it will be lovely - have fun! I made it through the dinner, but it was rough. Our friends brought an "interesting" bottle of wine that they wanted us to try, and when I told them I wasn't drinking I felt like I was letting them down. Don't get me wrong - they were super supportive and wonderful - I just felt like the odd man out, you know? I know things like this shouldn't bother me, but they do. At any rate we ended up having a great evening, so that was good. The weekdays are pretty easy for me, as they are all about routine. It's the weekends where I flounder. Also, DH is out of town again, so feeding a house full of hungry kids W30 compliant fare can turn mealtime into a battleground, which is exhausting when I'm doing it on my own. So I usually end up cooking something for them, and then making/scrounging something else for me. Thank the good Lord for broiled chicken and hard boiled eggs! How is everyone else doing? We are almost half-way there!! I'm still waiting for the Tiger Blood to kick in. Has anyone else gotten there yet?

Hi All! Sorry I've been MIA - I'm toggling between teaching and kid wrangling with DH out of town so it's been a busy few days. Summer is here and the number of small people in my house at any given moment has changed dramatically! But, I'm happy to say that I finally got some cooking done, baked a bunch of chicken breasts and roasted two giant pans of veggies, so at least I have something in the fridge I can just heat and eat. I have a challenging evening coming up on Saturday - dinner with good friends. We usually put away a few bottles of wine, so that will be hard for me, but I'm actually feeling pretty confident so hopefully I will stay on track. I'm going to stock up on La Croix and maybe some other drinks that are "special" but still compliant. I would love to hear how any of you handle these types of situations, if you also find them challenging. Always looking for new and different strategies! @jpags99 I'm sorry I wasn't there to cheer you on when you needed support, but I'm so glad you made it through on your own! Way to go! Those cravings can be so powerful. What did you do to successfully resist? This time around I'm finding that I'm struggling with cheese way more than sugar. I had actually cut sugar out of my diet about a month before I started this W30, in an attempt to reduce the inflammation that is contributing to my knee pain, so I think that is why it is not such a big deal for me right now. I find that the less I eat sugar, the less I crave it. But cheese seems to be another story....... Wishing you all a happy weekend! Stay strong! One week down!!!

OMG I love this! I am definitely going to make some of these this weekend. And thanks to everyone else who chimed in with suggestions - I have to remember to think outside of the (breakfast) box. Heating up leftovers is a good call. That's about all I can handle in the mornings! @jpags99 I'm so sorry - that is sooooo disappointing! Excellent job coming up with something else on the fly and not throwing in the towel! So, I'm feeling better - less crankilicious. Which is great, because DH is out of town til the end of the week, so I'm solo parenting. I've been sleeping really well, except when I get sucked into Murdoch Mysteries on Netflix, and then it's anyone's guess when I will actually get to bed. Had a real NSV today - went out to dinner with my mom and the kids, and the kids wanted pizza so we ended up at one of our favorite pizza places. I thought it would be torture, but I ended up ordering the spinach salad (sans non-compliant ingredients, and EVOO/vinegar on the side for dressing), and was surprisingly fine. It helped that the salad was really good, with lots of other veggies in it. Then I went to the restroom, and while I was there they all ordered dessert! But, again, it turned out to be fine. It was pretty easy to resist, and I didn't feel deprived or mad at all. Win!

First, you want to make sure you are eating enough at each meal so that you don't have the urge to snack. For me, personally, that means I need to have a lot of healthy fat in each mean - my "go-to's" are avocado and homemade mayo. But, because we are all human, I do think it is wise to carry around a few emergency snacks. I like the single-serving packs of almonds (I get mine at Trader Joe's), and I also found some single-serving pouches of compliant chicken jerky at Henry's (I think they are Primal brand). I'm struggling with crankiness too. I know it will pass, but it sucks to be in that phase. Keep going! We will come through the other side! I'm still having issues with breakfast. Need to come up with a plan. Thank goodness for hard-boiled eggs. Does anyone have an easy breakfast go-to? Preferably something that doesn't need to be cooked (at least in the morning), or can be heated up in the microwave? Hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks for letting me vent. After I wrote the last post I decided to kick my own butt, and made myself lunch - thank heavens for avocados and Trader Joe's carnitas! That gave me enough of a boost to hard boil some eggs and make mayo. I'm thinking of trying Mel Joulwan's scotch eggs, but with ground beef instead of ground pork (cause ground beef is what I have). Has anyone tried something like this? Am I crazy? (Note: these are not mutually exclusive questions).

I'm a teacher too and I can SO relate to this. I'm teaching summer school right now, but it is a completely different schedule for me and I'm just......off. And despite having a week between the end of finals and the start of summer school I didn't prep/plan *anything*. Cause I'm proactive like that. So it's day 3, almost noon and I haven't eaten anything yet. Which I know is A BAD DECISION, but nothing sounds good and I'm feeling lethargic. Making a meal sounds like too. much. work. And it's not like I'm craving anything (yet). I just don't want to eat anything. But not in a good way. In a lazy would-it-be-too-terrible-if-I-just-never-got-out-of-bed-again? way. Ugh. Hope the rest of you are having a good day!!

Oh breakfast. Why must you be so hard? Tough to make good choices when my brain is not fully awake yet. At least I have eggs.....

iteach I hear you! It can be so hard to take good care of ourselves when we feel crappy. Kudos to you for staying the course! I'm sure your body will thank you!

Hi All! I'm a bit late to the game, but hope I can still join this great group! This is my second W30, the first one was last June. I tried to do another one in September, but the month go crazy and I gave up after 2.5 weeks. I think one a year is a good plan for me, and June seems to be a pretty good month for me. Last year I felt so great at the end of the month, and I really want that feeling again. I've been having some trouble with arthritis in my knees, and I'm hoping this will help with that too! Looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you! Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Sunflower seeds! My favorite go-to for long drives. Most brands are compliant, but read the labels just to be sure. Have a safe drive!

Hi K8 - I think that is such an important point! Even though it seems like doing a W30 is adding stress to our already crazy lives (and yes, sometimes it does feel that way), in the end I think it really REDUCES the stress we feel. For myself, I know that I am so much calmer and patient (especially with my kids) when I am "eating clean". It makes such a difference to my temperament.

Hey Catlover! Sorry you are experiencing cravings. One thing I have found that has really helped me is to stay hydrated. I drink liters and liters of water all day when I'm on the W30. If I don't I find that I am super tired and craving sweets. I think it might be an energy thing? Anyways, that's my advice. Hang in there and good luck!!

Starting Whole 30 on September 5th

So, the weekend was tough. Department party at my house, lots of alcohol and non-compliant goodies, and because I am 100% on top of my game I had prepped ZERO food for myself. Good times. I ate a lot of chicken and celery sticks, drank a lot of La Croix, and tried not to hate my co-workers too much. Next day, gathering at a friend's house who is going through a divorce, again lots of wine and off-limits treats. Drank a lot of iced tea, at a lot of celery sticks. BUT, having got through both days without chucking in the towel I feel very proud and know I am on the right path. Hope you are all feeling good and ready for another great week!

Oh Riya, I hear you! I am right there too. Everything I have been eating is compliant, but not template, not regular, and not enough. Which makes me tired, which makes it even hard to get my act together. Cue downward spiral. Let's take a few deep breaths, be kind to our overworked selves, and carry on as best we can! We can do this!
