JustClaudia
Hi, guys! I'm coming up on my first weekend away from home. I am going to a dog show and my friends are planning on going out to eat at a casino buffet Saturday night. I need to pack my food for 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches, as at the dog show everyone just eats out of concession stands and I am sure there will be nothing W30 compliant there. Any ideas for food that will last 2 days in a cooler? Also, what about this casino dinner? Do you think it's possible to stay compliant there or would you skip it? Thanks!! missmunchie
If you have a fridge or something where you're staying, you can bring boiled eggs, any sort of cooked meat (sliced roast beef, turkey, etc.), canned tuna or sardines, olives in a jar, raw veggies like carrots, sliced peppers, etc. Avocados, and maybe prep some sweet potatoes as they can be eaten cold, or warmed in a microwave. If you don't have a fridge I think you'll be okay for two days if you keep ice on everything. Do you know which buffet? Maybe you can call in and see what they offer and how they prepare their hot stuff. Buffets are usually okay especially if there's a decent salad bar part. But check what oil anything hot is cooked in if you can. Stash some emergency toppings in your bag like some eggs or tuna in case there's no compliant protein. But honestly, a casino buffet usually offers everything under the sun, so you should be able to scrap something together. Have fun!!
Kirsteen
Have you read the W30 travel guide. i'm trying to post the link but for some reason it won't let me at the moment. If you go to the top of the page and 'Our book' section, scroll down and in the free downloads you'll find the travel guide and the dining out guide. good luck
JustClaudia
Thanks, guys, for the tips. Yes, I had read the Travel Guide. Honestly, I didn't find anything that sounded appealing that wouldn't make me concentrate on how horrible my food was. Thanks again, everyone. Jinkse21
Do you know what hotel you are staying at? Call before you go and see if they have fridges in the rooms and, if not, ask if they have them available to put in the rooms. I used to work at Marriott Courtyard and we had a limited stock but when they were available, we could put them in rooms at no extra charge. If no fridge, take a well-insulated cooler...hotel ice is free and plentiful! Pretty much all buffets have a salad bar so you shouldn't have any problems there. It's a hard call on proteins though since most are full of additives. If you like seafood, I would say that would be your best bet as I am sure they will have steamed shrimp and crablegs. Plus, if they have the butter for the crablegs, it's clarified butter so you should be good to go there for fat too. Enjoy your trip! I couldn't go to a dog show because I'd leave wanting one of everything!
JustClaudia
Yes, they do have fridges and microwave. So I am thinking of making a fritada of eggs and veggies for breakfast and a chicken salad with grapes for a cucumber sandwich for lunch. I can make enough to last me two days. I can do this!! I'm bringing my dogs to compete, so I already have plenty of them Jinkse.
Jinkse21
Do you have a muffin tin? I make little fritattas in muffin cups so I can just grab 2 or 3 of them, heat for about 20-30 seconds and go! What kind of dogs do you have?
