Glowing green smoothie paleofied??

Hi there! Just wondering if this would be ok for breakfast:

http://kimberlysnyder.net/blog/ggs/

It is basically an all vegetable and fruit smoothie that is quite filling! Would I need to add a source of protein and fat on the side to make it w30 compliant? There are sources that say fruit should be eaten on an empty stomach and I notice when I mix fruit with anything other than veggies my digestion is off (gas- sorry! Tmi) ... Any suggestions?? Meat for breakfast just doesn't appeal to me some days and I have developed an intolerance to eggs :(

Thanks!

Sam

nope. smoothies are not a good choice for breakfast during a whole30 for a couple reasons; forming new habits, and eating according to the meal template are key among them.

Smoothies: We'd rather you didn't

This is a very popular question, with a very unpopular answer. Smoothies (generally made using lots of fruit) are technically compliant on your Whole30, but we strongly recommend against it. Food that you drink sends different satiety signals to your brain than food that you chew. So when you drink your meal, your brain isn't getting the feedback it needs to tell your body that it's had enough of what it needs. Plus, smoothies are generally really fruit-heavy, and starting your day off with a liquid sugar-bomb sets you up for cravings, hunger, and volatile energy levels throughout the day. In summary, we'd rather you just eat the food, and skip the smoothie.

You could put the smoothie alongside a palm-size portion of protein and a thumb-size portion of fat and technically meet template guidelines, but I like to think of it like this: if I put all the INGREDIENTS (not pureed) on the plate with protein and fat would I be eating an appropriate balanced meal? In this case, not really. 3 pieces of fruit in one sitting is too much.

Many people enjoy eating leftovers for breakfast, but basically anything that you would eat at any of the other meals is good.
