Leeannimal2626
My mom has put turnips in various dishes growing up. I dislike regular potatoes so I'd eat the turnips instead and I always liked them. I bought some (like 3 medium ones) with the intention of adding them to dish I was making thinking ohhh yes this will be tasty! I peeled and cubed up those turnips, threw them in and let them simmer. And I took my first bite annnnnd... WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! I got a big mouthfull of this weird fibrous thing. I called my mom to find out what the heck!? Turns out, you have to peel them fairly deep - more than just their skin... you have to get down past that fibrous thing. Ugh. Entire dish ruined and lesson learned. Bet
HMM, I just peel the top layer. I usually put them in stews in the slow cooker. They do take awhile to get soft. Were they too hard? Or was it the taste?
Tina R
Have you tried rutabaga? It is similar to turnip but the taste is not as harsh. You do have to peel them as well. Enjoy!
dipitie
Hahaha I'm weird in that I don't mind the extra fibery texture. Could you just eat around the outside so you don't have to toss the whole dish?
1Maryann
What kind of turnips did you use? I cut up purple-tops to add to stews and I never peel them, just trim the top and bottom.
