Any tips for a former runner?

2 years ago I used to be a fit half marathoner. Now im 40lbs heavier and I would be surprised if I could run a half mile. Im currently doing a whole 60 (on day 23) and I really want to hit the pavement in January during my last 30 days. Does anyone have any advice on how to schedule meals/ when to eat before or after morning runs? how are you fueling/adding things into your diet? I tried paleo a couple years ago when I was really killing it running and it didn't work for me. I believe I wasn't eating enough. I was adding a lot of sweet potatoes to my diet but in general I think I needed more food. Any tips or advice would be great!
