Shelley's Whole 30 Log

Howdy Shelly!

Thought I would come on over,,and check in.

How is your 30 coming along?

Because of a doctor's physical & a fitness test,,,I have had to jump on a scale twice this week.  I didnt want to know,,,,but you can't avoid peeking.

The Paleo is helping me lose the weight,,,and feel better.

We (husband and I) eat breakfast and lunch on our own.  Dinner is the meal we eat together, and he has been eating my Paleo dishes that I serve.  No complaints yet.

Hope all is well in the Frozen North!

Hey AJ!

Thanks for stopping by! It's coming along great, thanks! This is probably the easiest Whole 30 I've done so far. I think I was ready for it. I'm feeling pretty good, but still really tired throughout the day and into the evening.

I know, it's hard not to jump on the scale. I have a friend who does the Whole 30 frequently, and usually at the same time as me, and she never follows that rule! She can't help herself. I'm glad to hear you are losing weight and feeling better.

Is your husband doing Whole 30 as well, or just eating your Whole 30 dinners? The food is so good, there's no need for complaints! :)

All is well here! Luckily, the weather has warmed up a little (but it's still pretty cold). Can't wait for spring.

Day 17

Here is what I ate today:

Pre-breakfast: 500 ml of water with half a lemon

Breakfast: Scrambled eggs and fried potatoes with homemade mayo

Lunch: Baked salmon with cole slaw

Dinner: Ground chicken and veggies in tomato sauce with half an avocado

Water: 1.5L (so far)

Very tired again today. But I went to the gym because it's run day and had a pretty good session on the treadmill.

I'm having some pretty intense dreams. Not about food, just life, but intense. Still waking a lot in the night, so hoping that gets better.

I was hoping to make lots of food today, but the day kind of got away from me. Oh well, tomorrow's another day!

Day 19

Here's what I ate today:

Pre-breakfast: 500 ml of water with half a lemon

Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, sweet potato and homemade mayo

Lunch: Burgers with homemade mayo/ketchup and salad

Dinner: Tuna Salad

Water: Heaps

I think I've hit the food boredom stage. I couldn't muster anything more than tuna salad for dinner (and didn't want to put it in lettuce wraps). I'm not getting enough veggies and I need some delicious recipes! I hate green salad. For real. Everytime I eat salad, I feel like I'm being tortured. I've been eating it over the past few days because it's fast (and veggies), but I've been forcing it down. I found a couple of side vegetable dishes on the Paleo Porn website that I might try.

I woke up easily this morning and didn't feel tired throughout the day (although I'm pretty tired now). I went to the faculty to do some work and then to the gym and ran on the treadmill. 2.4 km without stopping. It's progress. :)

Right now, I've got curried short ribs in the slow cooker, hoping to feel happy about my food tomorrow, and a chicken to roast tomorrow as well. Day 20 tomorrow!! Wow!

Day 20

Here's what I ate today:

Pre-breakfast: 500 ml of water with half a lemon

Breakfast: Curried short-ribs and a boiled egg (no pic)

Lunch: Curried short-ribs and raw carrots

Dinner: Chicken apple sausage with homemade mayo, asparagus and beets

Water: 2L

Breakfast was not good this morning. I supply taught today so I ran out of time in the morning to make something proper. I should make another egg loaf. The ribs were ready because I had them in the slow-cooker all night and I had to eat them because they looked and smelled so good!! Falling off the bone deliciousness!

Today is my day of rest. I'm glad because my body is tired. Supply teaching again tomorrow, but at least I have some food prepared for breakfast and lunch. I should do some cooking this weekend to take me through the home stretch!

I've been invited out next week on my day 29. I said maybe. I don't think at that point I would do anything to jeopardize my 30 days, but going to a bar is always tempting. I'll see closer to the day.

Day 21

Here's what I ate today:

Pre-breakfast: 500 ml of water with half a lemon (in truth, I drank this after breakfast - so rushed in the morning when I'm teaching!)

Breakfast: Boiled eggs and chicken apple sausage with homemade mayo

Lunch: Ribs with asparagus and beets

Dinner: Ribs (that is all, no veggies, I couldn't have been bothered)

Water: 2L

I supply taught again today and I am exhausted. I was going to go to the gym for a run but am falling asleep on the couch. I'm running out of steam...

I had a pretty good sleep last night and woke up before my alarm feeling well rested. Hope it continues! :)

Day 22

Here's what I ate today:

Pre-breakfast: 500 ml of water with half a lemon

Breakfast: Egg salad lettuce wrap and sweet potato with homemade mayo

Lunch: Coconut chicken and Dill Butternut Squash 'Fries' with mayo

http://againstallgrain.com/2011/12/06/grain-free-chicken-strips/ (I left out anything that wasn't Whole 30 compliant)

http://paleomg.com/dill-butternut-squash-fries/

Dinner: Zoodles and meat/veggie sauce

Water 2.5L

I had my first food dream. Actually, it was a wine dream. I drank half a glass of wine and then it all went downhill from there. When I woke up, I briefly forgot that I was doing a Whole 30. Lol...weird.

I have been so tired today. I thought I had passed this tiredness, as I started to feel great a couple of days ago, but I could barely keep my eyes open today. I'm wondering if I am missing something in my diet that is causing me to be so tired. Maybe more iron? I do have low iron normally and am supposed to take iron tablets, but I don't usually feel this sleepy. I read on another part of this forum that perhaps I should eat more selenium-rich foods. I'm not sure.

I had a training session today. I considered cancelling because I was so tired (and a little grumpy) but I went anyway. I'm glad I did because it was a tough workout and I felt great afterwards. :)

I don't usually post here during the day, but I'm feeling a little down and frustrated today. During this Whole 30, I have been posting my food pics on my Facebook timeline, as well as here, so I can keep myself in line (knowing my friends and family will see them). I also have a couple of friends who are doing the Whole 30 as well, and we keep in touch regularly. I have had a lot of support and encouragement. After posting yesterday's pics, a good friend of mine exclaimed, "omg, that's a lot of food!". I'm not sure why this bothered me so much, but my first thought was to go into a huge spiel about the Whole 30 program and how I love that I don't have to measure my food and how I don't snack and I'm exercising as well and blah, blah, blah. But I didn't. I just replied with a "Yes! Lots of veggies, protein, and good fats! :)". For some reason, it really ruined my morning. It made me ask if I am eating too much. I don't think I am. Perhaps I'm reacting this way because I'm not feeling as thin this morning. As much as I'm loving how I'm feeling mentally and physically overall, I'm a little scared to step on the scale on Sunday. Part of me doesn't want to at all. Why does that number have such a hold over us. Ugh.

So I just got back from the gym, and two more people obviously took this as their opportunity to pipe in. One asked "let me ask why are you doing this?". Do you mean why am I eating healthy? Really? And another said, "there's a lot of eggs in these meals" but then went on to encourage me. I think I'm just grumpy about the first comment and feeling a little sensitive. Grrrr!

Ok, rant over. :)

Day 25

Pre-breakfast: 500 ml of water with half a lemon

Breakfast: Eggs and 'Potatoes' O'Brien with homemade mayo

Lunch: Baked salmon, asparagus and beets

Dinner: Chicken and Vegetable Curry

Post-hot yoga snack: Apple, pistachios

Water: A lot

I slept like a baby last night! Finally! I don't think I woke up once throughout the night. Woohoo!

As I stated in my rant earlier today, I went to the gym this morning and trained. Then I went to the faculty and did some work. In the evening, I decided to go to hot yoga to clear my mind and get myself in a better place. I feel much better now and am looking forward to going to bed soon and getting another good night's sleep. I can't believe I only have 5 days left!
