Pre-workout for sports

Hi all, my fiancé and I are in the first week of whole 30 and he has a footy game this weekend. He usually has a pre-workout drink before for energy and hydrating drinks during/after with sweets for hits of energy. What can he use instead?? Thanks :)

The recommendation for preWO is protein & fat - think hard boiled egg, or something like chicken & avocado or mayo.

PostWO is protein (think chicken or tuna) & carbs - not fruit as this will replenish liver glycogen stores. Opt for a starchy veg to replenish muscle glycogen.

For hydration stick with plain old water.

It's technically compliant, but the recommendation is that it's really only for endurance events April. It's kind of a fruit juice of sorts so you'd be replenishing liver glycogen stores with it. I'd stick with water.

The high fructose in the fruit will send the message to your brain that more sugar is on it's way & so your body will opt to burn carb stores rather than fat stores so it's best to stick to the recommendation of protein & fat.
