resources for pre/post workout

Im new to whole 30 - day 9! woohoo. 

 

Anyways, starting my training season - I have 2 half marathons a full marathon and 4 triathlons on the books for this year. 

 

I see people talking about pre and post workout meals but can someone point me in the direction of somewhere that really explains the why, when and what?

 

I have no clue what to eat and when and how that factors in to my 3 meals... its so confusing.
