itsmytime
Several recipes call for Lard. I don't cook enough back to have an adequate supply? Any suggestions that might be found in a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's? I've seen some online. Or, when a recipe calls for lard, what do you think is a good replacement? Thanks! Moderators ShannonM816 Posted September 16, 2016 Moderators Share Posted September 16, 2016 Epic brand has started making duck fat, lard, and tallow (rendered beef fat), and I've been able to find them at my local grocery store. At my store, they're in with all the other oils. If you don't want to use lard, just pick another fat. If you don't mind the flavor, coconut oil works. It or ghee/clarified butter are probably your best bets for high temperature cooking like searing meat. Macnut oil, olive oil, avocado oil are all okay too for some uses, though they won't do as well at higher temperatures.
