mlkirk
If something lists 'spices', or 'organic spices' as an ingredient, should this be a red flag? I bought organic uncured hotdogs and sausage at Whole Foods and both have 'organic spices' listed, but the specific spices are not listed. Also, is 'sodium lactate from beets' ok? One more - my kosher salt has 'Yellow Prussiate of Soda (anti-caking agent)' listed. Compliant? Thanks!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted March 18, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 18, 2013 I would not worry about the unnamed spices or the sodium lactate from beets. The Yellow Prussiate of Soda is not on our list of absolutely not ingredients, but Wikipedia notes that it involves cyanide. Even though it is a common enough food additive, I would avoid it.
