Bethany
I've had fish in the freezer for several months and I finally decided to cook it tonight. I checked the ingredients and was shocked to see "treated with carbon monoxide to retain color" in the ingredients list! Has anyone ever come across this? Carbon monoxide in our food...WHAT?! Kirsteen
Nope, I haven't because it's banned here in the EU. Yes, it's a poisonous gas but, believe it or not, that's not why it was banned. It was banned because, when added to meat it keeps it red and fresh looking indefinitely so consumers could be eating old unsafe meat thinking it was fresh.
