jdall Posted February 7, 2016 Share Posted February 7, 2016 I've spent most of my adult life overweight or obese. I never had this problem as a child. I've tried lots if diets, pills, potions, and fads. I have done Ww, medifast, vegetarianism, and most recently a quasi-paleo approach. My main goal is to stop the roller coaster and just live the crest of my life not obsessed with food, diets, or the bathroom scale. But I want to learn what foods work for me and which do not. I haven't weighed or measured or taken and oicture. I just want to feel better. w30trish Posted February 8, 2016 Share Posted February 8, 2016 I struggle in the late afternoons and evenings with snacking. I think for me it's boredom, or just a bad habit of rewarding myself with food after a long day. I haven't had these cravings on W30. I bought olives and I snack on a few if those while dinner is cooking. Make sure you have a satisfying dinner at the table. Include some fruit. I've been making sure to drink lots of water--figured I needed to make sure I flushed my system well. I used the crock pot today which was nice because dinner was ready when I got home. It's pretty normal to be tired the first few days, and it should pass soon, but if you find in a few days you're still struggling, or if you have any questions about whether you're doing things right, I'd encourage you to post over in the Troubleshooting section of the forum, including a couple of days' worth of food (including approximate portion sizes), water intake, exercise, and sleep. He had a little coke zero withdrawal and complained of not feeling full enough without bread or cheese with meals. But day 3 was really good and today has been great. I felt a little light headed between meals on day 2, but have since increased amount of protein and I've been fine since. We are both retired and now we farm and I run a bakery out of my home. Since I already cooked a lot, was used to eating our own healthy garden food and home raised beef, I'm wondering if that's why we have both felt better than we thought we were supposed to these first 4 days. Definitely the worse someone eats in the weeks leading up to their Whole30, the harder they tend to get hit by those early issues, so if you were already eating pretty healthy, it probably helped you avoid a lot of that. And, of course, the timeline is a generalization, so not everyone experiences everything in exactly the same order or at exactly the same time. jdall Posted February 11, 2016 Author Share Posted February 11, 2016 Day 5 has been good! Yesterday was a bit hard because it was Ash Wednesday which is a holy day of obligation to fast. I was able to eat o,e good solid meal and two light ones. Being at work for 12 hours helped and I did not succumb to my coffee demon. Got up at 3:30 am,baked 10 champagne cakes, 3 wine bundts, 5 doz bourbon chocolate cupcakes, 2 doz strawberry cupcakes, 1 doz rum chata cupcakes, 1 doz vanilla bean cupcakes, a 2 tier birthday cake, heart shaped cake, and a sugar substitute strawberry cake. Today is going to be hard because I usually use Saturday to downshift--coffee and a donut splurge. I have up coffee with this program because it's a trigger for me. We did make Easy Salmon cakes and sweet potato fries for dinner last night. Not a cheat but it was different from what we ate the rest of the week. Also, we have gone through almost all the fruits and veggies we bought last week in prep for our whole30 adventure week 1. I figure this is a good thing because we didn't stray. jdall Posted February 14, 2016 Author Share Posted February 14, 2016 I'm really enjoying the book. I had downloaded the Whole30 book but finally decided to buy It Starts With Food. Nicely written and I love the science behind their ideas. I am splurging this morning and having one cup of coffee (black) while listening to some relaxing music. I managed my first 7 days effectively and survived not eating anything with sugar. My husband and I have been amazed at what has grains and sugar in them. I actually had a mustard that had wheat in it--it went into the trash. I feel fine and not quite as bloated. My goal this week is to add 30 mi,utes of exercise into my daily routine. We are lucky because we farm and I freeze and can a lot of our veggies, so I know what's in them. Today my husband realized he has not had his usual heartburn or indigestion since we started. I have always packed my lunch so it's been easy to take salads. My husband does a lot if the evening cooking because he gets home before me. We did start planning a weekly meal plan which has helped too. I lay out all the ingredients in the morning and then he does the cooking. This week we are working on eating at the table, sticking with a bedtime, and increasing exercise. Our cold weather makes it hard to get motivated! LorieB that is so cool that you farm. jdall Posted February 18, 2016 Author Share Posted February 18, 2016 Yeah! Glad your energy has improved. We love, live, live cauliflower rice and mashed cauliflower. We started doing this even before this program. Cauliflower is so versatile and does leave you with that heavy feeling you get from rice. I've been proud of myself the last few days. I have had a really tough work week and I did not succumb to my normal pity party eating. I did treat myself to a cup of coffee this morning which is doing wonders to settle my frayed nerves. LorieB55 Posted February 22, 2016 Share Posted February 22, 2016 We're half way through and doing great (I was vacuuming the entire house at 7:00 this morning ) Last week, my husband kept pining over all the things he missed and was craving, and Friday ( day 13) we both had terrible cravings. By yesterday (day 15) we were feeling great amd discussed all the things we won't go back to. For me, I'm not going to keep chips around or m&ms. For him, he wants to do away with the Coke Zero and chocolate milk. We've turned the corner and can see where, in the past, we kept a lot of food around that we don't need and don't miss.
