My doctors have been wanting to start me on diabetic medication. When tested my blood sugar levels have been between 105-110 fasting. I don't think it's that high that I need medication. I'm on day 4, and have been checking my levels 3 times a day. Before lunch and dinner it's usually in the 90's, but when I wake up its between 105-115. How long will it take to finally be low enough that my doctors will stop pressuring me about taking meds? I'm doing this to prevent diabetes and to lose a lot of weight, I am also taking meds for high blood pressure.

Your question is "how long will it take," but it's practically impossible for us to answer that. You didn't get to where you are overnight, and unfortunately you can't undo it overnight either. Just be patient, follow the program, recheck your values afterwards and reevaluate at that point

I think it's also important to remember that MOST doctors really only focus on medication; they are taught to diagnose and provide prescriptions. If there are any doctors in your area who practice what's called "functional medicine" (they will still be MD or DO) you might find them more open to waiting on medication. Here's some info on functional medicine: http://www.functionalmedicine.org/about/whatisfm/

Also, for diagnosing diabetes there needs to be an A1C test performed.

(as a disclaimer, I am not an MD or a healthcare provider. I'm a graduate student in medical anthropology doing research on chronic illness, including diabetes).
