"Filtered Wood Smoke"

Hi there,

I was browsing in the grocery store for some ahi tuna steak and I came across wild caught ahi tuna and in the ingredients was listed "filtered wood smoke (used to preserve natural color)." It raised my eyebrow since I've never seen it as an added ingredient. I figured wood smoke would be okay, but the fact that it is either filtered or either used to preserve color wouldn't be. Any ideas?

Thanks all!
