Subbing kohlrabi for turnips?

I have made this casserole before (it is delicious and yes, makes a ton.)  I would halve the recipe and try it out.  Even with the turnips it was a bit watery.  Now that white potatoes aren't off limits in some forms on a Whole30 I would shred those and try them if the kohlrabi doesn't work.

Funny thing is I also had a nice bunch of those Japanese hakurei turnips (very sweet and mild) but I wanted to make this dish with them: scalloped turnips. It was wonderful! I topped it with leftover kalua pig and had a side of sauerkraut as Tom suggested. Delicious for breakfast. I plan on making the kohlrabi version tonight. I'll let you know how it turns out.
