My doctor explained how Celexa metabolizes in the liver and causes weight gain. I don't want to quit taking it at this point and I'm hoping to see and feel results being on this med! Thank you! missmary Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I'm not a doctor and I have not taken this medication personally. I will say this: Celexa is an SSRI. Whole30 eating has impacts on digestion and hormones, so it may impact how much Celexa is right for you. It is not safe to stop taking SSRI medications suddenly or to reduce your dose on your own. hollylu Posted February 20, 2015 Share Posted February 20, 2015 I don't take Celexa any more, but I am still in the process of eliminating it from my body after taking it for 10 years and tapering off for about 6 weeks. I haven't taken any in a couple of weeks. I am now on day 6 of the Whole30 and I am hoping it will help me to lose the extra weight that I gained on the Celexa - I'm not sure how long it takes, but I haven't seen any difference yet! I wasn't able to lose weight on any diet while I was taking the Celexa, but everyone is different, so maybe you will be able to. Good luck!
