Awesome30
First time poster, day 3 of 1st Whole 30, 1st can of chilled coconut milk. Is there a wax layer on the top of the milk between lid and product? When we opened the can to extract the congealed cream there were definitely 3 very different layers: On top, about 1/2" thick, a very hard substance that we don't think has any flavor but feels like chewing wax. Middle, about 2" thick, coconut cream Bottom, about 2" thick, coconut water What is the top layer? Is it an even harder cream that we should be blending in with the cream? I'm laughing already at my naivety.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted June 23, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 23, 2016 That top waxy layer will be coconut oil... just blend it all together
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted June 23, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 23, 2016 If you're using it for a recipe and want the middle bit, put it in the fridge and then when you open the can, open it upside down to how it was in the fridge. That will make the most liquidy part on the top, the middle stays in the middle (for the most part) and then that oil will be at the bottom of the can... Rohanna
This is strange. I haven't had this happen once. I usully use Thai brand. It seems like if there was wax they'd have to list it. I've seen the cream layer be very solid but not three layers.
Rohanna
Oh oil. Duh. That makes sense. I'd never even really used canned coconut milk before a couple weeks ago. It's so fabulous!
