Carli
Hi, Starting the Whole30 on Monday and preparing my cupboards! I have a can of coconut milk with the stabiliser Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose added. I can't find reference to this on the food additives cheat sheet or elsewhere in the forum. Any guidance on whether this is a yes or a no would be much appreciated. I'm inclined to think no, as I have found some information on Wikipedia that suggests it was found to cause low grade inflammation during a study in 2015 (on Mice). Thank You Carli
Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 22, 2016 Moderators Share Posted July 22, 2016 Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose is not prohibited. You can use that coconut milk, but you would be better off avoiding it for the reason you discovered yourself during your review of Wikipedia. The Whole30 bans three additives that are widely known to be a problem. There are many other ingredients that have not caused enough trouble to become well known. You may use your discretion with them.
