skrone
I just strained what was left in the crock pot overnight--approx 14 hours-- (remains of a whole chicken carcass, 2-3 onions, 2 carrots and the herbs and water as directed). It yielded only 2 cups and looks very brown. The recipe says it should yield 1 gallon. Should I just add enough water to make up the difference? Will this dilute it too much? QuilterInVA
You need to keep adding water as it cooks. You can try diluting now but it may not taste as good.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 1, 2016 Moderators Share Posted September 1, 2016 You lost a lot of liquid over those 14 hours. I normally use a pressure cooker and never have that problem, but I used my slow cooker once to see how it works. I had to add water once or twice to keep it at the right level until the end of the cooking period.
Rfallo
I would keep it concentrated, freeze it in an ice cube tray then add water when you are using it in a recipe. You got 2 cups, it should have yielded 16 cups, 2/16. So each 1/8 cup (that's 2 Tablespoons) would "reconstitute" to a full cup.
