On any and all days, you can eat anything you like whether it's from the book or not, as long as it follows the template and the rules.  Protein, fat, veg.  www.meljoulwan.com has three cookbooks to her name and oodles of free Whole30 recipes, nom nom paleo has some recipes that are Whole30 or can be modified to make Whole30.  You're not tied to the book, altho if you wanted to eat only what was in the book for the 30 days, that's okay too :)

I also started today. Day 1 is in the books now, and it wasn't as difficult as I expected to bypass milk in my coffee and diet soda. I planned my food for the next few days carefully so I won't have to think about it, though I know I'll want to try some new recipes and change things up. Wish everyone success on this journey.
