First Whole30 for disabled veteran

Recommended Posts

I'm a disabled US Air Force veteran (diagnosed with degenerative arthritis of the spine and ankle, muscle spasms, and depression) beginning my first Whole30. I'm familiar with Paleo concepts and have had many friends that have been successful. I was introduced to CrossFit in 2007 while in the Air Force and trained to the best shape of my life in Summer of 2008. Following some injuries and divorce in 2009 my long-term battle with depression deepened and I began gaining weight again. I've been getting help for depression for about a month through the VA and I finally have the motivation that I need to get my health back on track.

I've started a blog to track my progress including photos and more biographical information. I look forward to getting to know the Whole30 community!

Welcome to the forum. There's been a few posts recently on the effect of eating gluten on moods. Many people have found giving it up has helped with their depression, hopefully you'll find it helps that as well as the physical side of health..i just started my second W30 2 days ago. I'm off now to read your blog. I'm always looking for inspiration.

Edited to add, love your tatts, especially the hand, it's awesome.

Thanks, Kirsteen. It's called "The Hand of the Philosophers" and is an Alchemy symbol. The various parts are symbolic of "secret" components important to Alchemy. I like it because Alchemy was early Chemistry with the practitioners having to fill in the parts they didn't understand with magical explanations.

You can read more about it and what each part symbolizes here http://www.rexresearch.com/hollhand/hollhand.htm

Thank you for the posts of encouragement! My supportive girlfriend and I went shopping today after reading up on some recipes. Honestly, I'm happy with eating a chunk of meat, vegetables and a handful of nuts and fruit here and there but she wanted to try to find some things we can cook and enjoy together. I am looking forward to coconut curry chicken in the crockpot!

My blog post today gives more about my background and how I got to where I am now. http://danswhole30.b...3/01/day-1.html
