Stephanie Perdziak
The basic mayo recipe calls for one egg, but it never gets cooked. I didn’t think you should eat raw eggs. How does this work?
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted November 18, 2018 Moderators Share Posted November 18, 2018 This is something you'll have to decide for yourself. Mayo has traditionally been made from raw eggs, the vast majority of people have had no issues with it, though people with compromised immune systems probably shouldn't risk it. You can read up on the risks of salmonella from raw eggs, and you can buy pasteurized eggs or there are some instructions online to pasteurize them yourself, and there are egg-free versions of mayonnaise, though they won't taste quite the same (Google either egg-free mayo or AIP mayo). Stephanie Perdziak
Thank you! I was at the store after I posted this question and I looked at the mayo ingredients. It has egg in it. I never knew. I’m going to try it.
