Anna Hughes_6519
I live in the UK and for some reason can only find sauerkraut in wine (weinkraut?). Now, I know no wine is allowed even for cooking, but being unfamiliar with the fermenting process in sauerkraut I have no idea if it might be more similar to, say, vinegar, which we can have. Does anyone know if we can have it? Or somewhere in the UK to get normal sauerkraut? (I'm not quite ready to make my own just yet.) Have checked Sainsburys and Waitrose, not willing to shop at Tesco. Sharon Simpson Thumann
I'm going to say no, because we aren't allowed to even cook with wine. I've never actually heard of sauerkraut being made with wine. I'm sure a mod will chime in with a definite answer.
Kirsteen
Yes, Sainsbury's own brand is in white wine so that would be a no-go. My local Waitrose sells Kuhne Sauerkraut, which is just cabbage and salt. http://www.waitrose.com/shop/ProductView-10317-10001-7473-K%C3%BChne+sauerkraut Asda sell Orzech Sauerkraut which has asorbic acid and citric acid and I.'ve also found compliant sauerkraut in local organic grocers, polish delicatessens etc. Hope this helps
Anna Hughes_6519
Thanks! I will keep looking. My Waitrose might be a bit smaller as they only had it in wine, but if it's definitely available somewhere I'll just keep an eye out.
