laurabeth
I know that fresh is better, but in a pinch is bottled lemon juice ok? Ingredients are water, lemon juice, lemon oil and two preservatives -- sodium bisulfite and sodium benzoate.
Tina R
No, sodium bisulfate is a no on whole30. The best way to search for frequently asked questions is on google, type in "whole30 bisulfate" or whatever you are looking for and you should find the forum answers. Use fresh lemon juice instead. Good Luck!
Peebles
Hi Laurabeth, if you're too lazy for squeezing lemons and/or limes (like, ahem, somebody I know... ), you can find bottled "direct juice" which only contains pure juice, no icky preservatives etc. Here in Europe every supermarket has it (often in the "organic" section). Even though it has no preservatives, I've never had a bottle go off - just make sure to store it in the fridge after opening. Hope that helps! Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 4, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 4, 2014 There are three additives that are called out as big problems in the Whole30 rules. MSG, carrageenan, and added sulphites. Sodium bisulfite is added sulphites. I buy lemon and lime juice in bottles that is just pure juice. I am too impatient to squeeze my own juice and the bottled stuff is easy and has never spoiled in the weeks I sometimes take to use a bottle.
