jscellist
Hi guys, I'm wondering how compliant it would be to order a burger at a restaurant over veggies and what you would have to ask to be sure of it. 1. I'm low fodmap, so I always ask without garlic and onion spices. 2. You have to ask about cooking oil? Is it easier to ask what oil they use or request something? 3. Does it have to be grass fed? 4. Do you have to worry about the grill being full of gluteny things? Many thanks!
GFChris
While grass-fed would be an optimal choice, grass-fed is not required on a Whole30.Ask whether the patty is gluten-free (some restaurants use bread crumbs in their burger patties). Yeah, you always have to ask about cooking oils when dining out (or if they use a cooking spray. Cooking sprays usually contain soy lecithin). Another option is to request that the burger be dry-grilled.Ask about seasonings (look out for things containing sugar, soy, or any other off-plan ingredients). You might also find this article to be helpful. As far as a grill being full of gluteny things, that's only an issue if you have celiac disease or are highly sensitive to gluten cross-contamination. From a general Whole30 perspective, that is a non-issue.
praxisproject
If their burgers have things in them, see if they have any thin steaks (they're called minute steaks here in Australia) which you might be able to get in salads and things. Don't forget to ask for no sauce, most have sugar in them.
WholeMama
Yes just ask questions! I recently had great success at a burger place. Add on extras - I got avocado and egg, plus a side salad. Delish!
QuilterInVA
If it's not a $$$ restaurant, I don't believe them if they say they will cook it with olive oil.
