SLA1975
The recipe for this in the Whole 30 book calls for 1/2 cup of apple cider and 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar. I don't want to buy a 32 oz botle of apple cider (the only thing I could find). Any ideas for a substitute? Think apple sauce would work?
JulieP757
No applesauce wouldn't be acidic enough. You can find a smaller bottle of apple cider vinegar and it's pretty inexpensive.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted April 4, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 4, 2016 Applesauce could work in the place of the apple cider but you'd still need to use the apple cider vinegar... some people use dates for sweetner so i don't see why the applesauce wouldn't work. Try it and let us know!
JulieP757
Oops - I totally misread your question. Sorry about that!
SLA1975
Unsweetened applesauce totally worked for this. I used one can tomato paste, 1/2 cup applesauce, 1/2 cup cider vinegar and the rest of the ingredients. Really delicious and the perfect consistency. the_only_colie
I used unfiltered organic Apple juice in place of apple cider. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is to be honest. So you might be able to find that in a smaller container.
