HealthyForPNG
This may be impossible, but here goes. I've been invited to a friend's birthday party, and it is Asian themed. However, I cannot get coconut aminos here. Does anyone have a good recipe idea that doesn't require coconut aminos, or other hard-to-find ingredients (ie, compliant fish sauce)? I could of course make something non-compliant to share, and just bring my own food, but it would be great to bring something I could eat.
HealthyForPNG
I should have specified that the birthday party is being thrown for her, and is a potluck.
laura_juggles
Without the coconut aminos or fish sauce, it might be tough to really hit the Asian flavor notes, but what if you did some wings and sprinkled sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onion on top? Can you get your hands on Chinese Five Spice? Could do a dry rub of five spice (or cinnamon/clove/fennel/star anise/Szechwan peppercorn) with salt, garlic powder, and ginger powder. Something saucy would be tough, but dry-rubbed meat could be yummy. Hope that helps!
Karen_Suep
You can make a mushroom based umami sauce to help get that Asian zing. Mushrooms are pretty much everywhere and it's easy to sub for other soy-like sauces.
