MavMeg
Hey there gang! I've seen many folks talk about going to their local butcher for Whole30-compliant meats and sausages. My question is - do I just assume all meat there is good to go? Or do I still need to ask the butcher additional questions to ensure the meat is compliant? Is it silly to even ask a local butcher if their sausages contains sugar or preservatives? I mean obviously they don't, right? Or do they? I just have no idea about what is normal for butchers. Moderators ShannonM816 Posted September 11, 2016 Moderators Share Posted September 11, 2016 You still need to ask -- everyone's recipe for sausage or bacon or whatever is different, and you need to know what they use in theirs. They'd be less likely to use preservatives, although they still might, but sugar or other sweetener is pretty common in some types of sausage. Karen_Suep
A local butcher here uses dextrose in their sausages. It's a bummer bc I love their sausages but i def can live without it for a month.
