rpbelize
I have a friend who is having a number of health issues. She is extremely fatigued, has adrenal issues, etc. Her main concern with trying something like the Whole30 is the fact that she is already very underweight and cannot put on weight. She is concerned the Whole30 will cause her to (even temporarily) lose more weight, something she cannot afford to do. Has anyone tried it with similar issues? missmary
I haven't had that experience, but I think the W30 would be a wonderful option for this person. The key will be making sure she eats lots and lots and lots of compliant food. FAT, CARBS, PROTEIN. all of it. The whole 30 isn't a calorie restrictive program or a weight loss program. It is a health promoting program.
Alana in Canada
My husband and I are like that nursery rhyme, "Jack Spratt could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean..." He's doing the whole 30 for the same reasons as your friend and I expect him to gain a little weight--but mostly, be healthy. Weight loss is a side effect--for those of us who need it. Mark Sisson talks about how when he started eating paleo he gained weight. I also want to add that sleep and stress management are also important.
