11brownc
Hey all! I'm just starting Whole30 -- literally this is my first day! I just had a question about Zatarain's Crab Boil. In the ingredients list, it lists dextrose. However, the Whole30 rules talk about dextrose being essential in salt (which is the first ingredient in the boil) in order to prevent oxidization, and therefore an exception to the rules. Thoughts??? I personally think it should be fine, but I'd definitely love some input!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted June 4, 2018 Moderators Share Posted June 4, 2018 No. The exception is specifically for salt. Dextrose listed in anything else is not okay, because we have no way of knowing if that's just dextrose in the salt they used, or if they've added a bunch of sugar -- and since ingredients are listed in order based on how much of each thing is in it, since dextrose is the first ingredient, it's got a high percentage of sugar compared to other ingredients.
