waking86
I apologize if this question has been answered already, but I sifted through 4 pages of threads and did not see a question for whether or not I can eat salsa. I live in Texas people, home of Tex-Mex. I'm on Day 6 and am doing great (even with Easter yesterday!) but would LOVE some restaurant made salsa (and yes, I plan to ask if they use sugar in their salsa, and if they do I'll pass). Thank you
Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 1, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 1, 2013 I think most salsa recipes would be fine, but you would need to ask about ingredients. Sugar is a real possibility. I just posted a new meal idea that happens to include a picture of the ingredients in the salsa I bought at Whole Foods... http://www.wholelife...-roasted-salsa/
Patricia Hall Infante
Make your own! Simple is best. Ripe tomato, finely chopped onion, garlic if you like that in your salsa, cilantro, juice a lime, add a dash of salt/pepper. I think all these ingredients are whole30 compliant. I make a cup at time and it last for a few days (family of 3 adults). We use on eggs, meats, salad.
waking86
Patricia, Do you use some kind of a blender or food processor for your homemade salsa? Thanks!
Patricia Hall Infante
I don't use a blender or food processor. I suppose you could use it for the other ingredients, but it would turn the tomatoes to mush. Also, I make in fairly small quantities so it is hardly worth the time to clean the cuisinart :-)
Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 2, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 2, 2013 My new favorite kitchen tool is an immersion blender. I make mayonnaise in a plastic cup in less than 5 minutes. You could make salsa in about 5 minutes too.
Carolyn Cornett Hobbs
My favorite salsa recipe uses the blender. Put in 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 good handful of cilantro, and 1 to 2 canned jalapenos, whole or cut up not sliced. Blend, add some lime and salt......yummy! Every time I makes this for people they go crazy for it.
