Kage
Last night we went round to a friends house for wood oven pizza and drinks. I was day 9 of my 3rd whole30 and feeling pretty typical for day 9. No magic yet, feeling deprived etc. I took my food and sparkling water. Really wasn't too fussed about the pizza/snacks but felt really deprived not being able to have a glass of wine. I have pretty much felt sad and flat for the last 9 days and so I was feeling pretty vunerable. Any way my "friends" proceeded to try and talk me in to drinking and when I refused have a long, very passionate passive aggressive conversation about their diets and how they would never deprive them selves and every thing in moderation and you shouldn't do any thing you are not willing to do for the rest of your life. Blah Blah Blah. Then later told me how bad soda water is. Then finally shut up about it and got down to the odd snide comment and then another full on attack later. On another day I would have defended myself rationally, ( i did start with that but since no one was actually listening I gave up pretty quickly) if I was not already feeling sad I probably would have gotten angry and told her to Shut up and mind her own business but as it was I just tried not to cry. I realise logically this has far more to do with them than it does with me. I know why I am doing this and that is all that really matters. But I feel really isolated and sad and have been crying all morning. no point to this really, just needed to vent to people who understand. AmyS
Wow! I'm so sorry that happened to you! I wonder if your "friends" were too drunk to behave appropriately? Maybe next time don't stay for long. Ugh, with friends like that... sending hugs.
Administrators ladyshanny Posted April 19, 2015 Administrators Share Posted April 19, 2015 Oh, that is horrid, so sorry! For people to be so absolutely terrified of change that they are willing to attack their friend who is trying to make positive change....that is on them. Not you. That negativity and ugliness is all them. I hope you have a better rest of the day!

Loulabelle
Seriously, what is wrong with people that the one not drinking and eating healthily is the weird one. Hugs to you and I hope you are feeling much better today.
Kage
Thanks every one. The really ironic thing is the friend who did most of the attacking is a Vegan. There was a bit of paleo bashing too. "Do you know they even eat meat for breakfast???" Wow really? Sigh. Any way day 11 tomorrow. Time to move on
tricializ
It's almost better to just say to people like this, "I'm on a special diet by my doctor for food sensitivities. So for the next 30 days, sorry but can't even have a drop". Who would argue with a doctor's order? Usually this type of behavior is when the others feel guilty for doing less than healthy things. Way easier to attack
Maggiedoll
Thanks every one. The really ironic thing is the friend who did most of the attacking is a Vegan. There was a bit of paleo bashing too. "Do you know they even eat meat for breakfast???" Wow really? Sigh. Any way day 11 tomorrow. Time to move on Sounds like it may have been largely a vegan vs. meat eater thing, then? Vegans aren't generally known for quietly letting other people make their own food choices. The vegan instigator explains a lot, really.
Kage
TBH i think it was a "I couldn't possibly give up alcohol for a month so you shouldn't because you make me feel bad" thing. I really don't think any one would have cared what I was or wasn't eating if I had a drink. Pretty dysfunctional hey?
