    4/2/2018 Starting Whole30

I found that sugar triggered my sinuses. The very first W30 I did was in the spring and I realized I wasn't taking my allergy medicine any more and I wasn't getting sore throats anymore. So glad you are feeling better.

    4/2/2018 Starting Whole30

One of the biggest reasons I decided to do the W30 this time (I've done rounds before in 2016) was to show myself that I can be consistent. Consistency is my biggest struggle. I'll be doing well and then I'll deviate and feel bad about it. I've been doing mindful mediation for a while now and I really think that has helped me to really think through my choices. When I have a craving, my goal is to be mindful and ask those questions that Melissa talks about in Food Freedom Forever "“Do I want it? Is it worth it? Will it mess me up? Am I willing to accept the consequences? Do I really want it?” There are only two answers here—yes, it’s worth it and I really want it, or no, it fails one or more of those criteria." I know that I'm an Abstainer. I do much better when I just stay away from said food. So I'm working on figuring out how I can manage trigger foods and not let it throw me totally off because you know I have to live life. https://whole30.com/2017/04/abstainer-or-moderator/ I also do much better with black and white rules instead of guidelines and that is something I'm working on also. I feel like I've taking the desperation out it. I've already tried to lose the weight (30-40lbs) "quickly" and that hasn't produced long term success. So now I'm just working on becoming healthy. Doing what I need to do to feel good, have energy, less stress and sleep throughout the night without waking up. I now know that if I pursue health, that I will get a smaller pant size by accident. Also I've never done the reintroduction correctly any of the times I've down W30 and I'm determined to do it correctly ALL the way through. I'll be doing the slow reintroduction and I've already planned out the next 30 days. I'll be reintroducing something new every 2 weeks. I know that for most foods I do not have an immediate reaction. It happens over time so I need to give it time. I'm totally OK with that. Here's to the next 4 days and beyond. YES WE ALL GOT THIS!!!!

I really don't feel that tiger blood they talk about. Don't think I've lost a lot of weight either BUT I've avoided eggs and dairy. Most importantly I've been consistent and that was the biggest reason I'm doing the W30. I already have a plan for day 31. I don't think I can go back to Keto with all of the eggs and dairy. So I'm going to adjust W30 every 30 days and just work with that. I'm not in a rush. I just need to find what works for me.

Hi all. I haven't posted much on here but I have been keeping up with my Whole30 Day by Day journal. I really have been enjoying it. I think it has kept me motivated this time around. I was starting to get discouraged because as I read other people saying things like I've fit into my skinny jeans or I'm down a size or I've peaked at the scale and I'm down 10lbs. (This was the reason I pulled away from the forum.) I've felt a mental shift and took the desperation out of it. Yes I'm hoping for weight loss but the main reason I decided to do the W30 this time was to correct some digestive issue and I've done that. I'm seeing the improvements that I was hoping for so I need to take that as a huge victory. Before I couldn't go more that a few days without eating something sweet and now I've gone 19 days and I don't even crave fruit to use as a substitute for dessert. I'm trying to change behavior more then just following a set of rules. I'm already thinking about what happens on Day 31. I'm planning on relaxing the "no added sugar" rule so that I can eat the bacon, sausage and ham that I have in my freezer but I will still stay away from things like ketchup and BBQ Sauce and Salad dressings. I want to do this for 30 days. I'm thinking every 30 days to reintroduce something but in the end it won't be a lot because I was really eating W30 before by with dairy. Think of it as a really slow reintroduction. NSV - I got a manicure the first week of April and my fingers still look good. Unfortunately, no tiger blood here. I was hoping my sleep would improve but it hasn't been consistent. This is another reason why I think I need more that just 30 days to see the improvements I want which is totally ok with me.

I'm focusing on vegetables also this week. I didn't do such a good job today. Don't get me wrong. I ate veggies today but I need more. Maybe I'll do a big salad for dinner. First week went well. I had cravings but nothing too bad. Yesterday I was just really tired. I kept falling to sleep while watching tv. Today seems to be better. I find that after meals 1 & 2, I'm not really that hungry for meal 3. Almost like I'm good with just a snack. I ate at 10:30am, 3:30pm and it's 7pm and I still haven't eaten meal 3 yet.

Yesterday was interesting. I was hungry all day AND I felt really bloated. I woke up and felt better. I didn't feel the bloat and I feel like my hunger was more in check. NSV - One of my goals for this round is to get in more veggies. I made asparagus for the first time and it was really good. Extra bonus is at my 6 & 8 year old liked it also. It's always a win when I they like anything new, lol. Weekend are a struggle since I'm out of my routine. So my plan is to cook a bunch today so all I have to do it mix and match and heat up.

I was doing a low-carb/keto before this round of Whole30. I'm trying to keep the carbs at dinner just a few times a week. I'm more interested in getting in more veggies without having to limit myself to only 30g of carbs. I don't want a lot of fruit because I can abuse them to satisfy my sweet tooth and I don't want to do that. I'm going to only do sweet potatoes at dinner a few times a week. I personally do well with less carbs but I'm doing this round of W30 more to force myself to stop getting foods that my body doesn't like (dairy/eggs) what are staples of keto and low carb protocols.

I'm using the Day by Day journal. I figured it would help me stay motivated. I'e made clarified butter b4. I've been most successful doing it in my crockpot. I think you should at least givenit a try. How to make ghee in the crockpot http://www.primallyinspired.com/ghee-in-the-crockpot/

I batch cook lots of food and then I can mix and match to make meals. So cook meatballs, brown some ground beef/turkey. Roast some veggies and potatoes. Boil some eggs. Have fresh veggies on hand. Now you can throw compliant meals together.

I also started W30 today. This isn't my first one but the last one I did was probably in 2016. I came back because I'm starting to have GI issues and I know that I need to remove foods. So I will be doing this W30 eggless. I've done it before with no issue but I've gotten used to eating eggs that now I have to think back to what I did. Today I skipped breakfast (on purpose) and ate around 11:30am. I'm going to try to incorporate intermittent fasting just because it limits me with grazing. My worst habit. I know you aren't supposed to snack but sometime I find it hard not to so I try not the keep things around the house that I can eat by the handful as well as almond butter. I will eat that by the spoonful. I made a batch of meatballs and roasted some broccoli. Tomorrow I will go shopping for more veggies. My goal this time around is to up my veggie intake by like a lot. Oh and to keep myself accountable, I'm using the Whole30 Day by Day book.
