I did my first Whole30 in April and it was amazing! I lost 14.7 lbs and felt great! I fell WAY off the wagon though, and most of the weight is back on already :( I decided to start again on July 1st, but then I realized that I couldn't, and shouldn't, wait. I have some stuff going on in June, but I started a Whole26-ish today! I also started a blog on my weight-loss saga, and the Whole30 experience. Check it out if you're interested!

First of all, you must be doing something right over the years because you sure don't look 52!

Second, you can find tons of recipes on Paleo and Whole30 friendly blogs but I see you found some already. Most of what is in cookbooks is already out there on the web. I bought a huge 3 ring binder which gets more full by the day.

I did my first diet in 5th grade, and this year I am attending my 30th high school reunion. That is a lot of time spent dieting! I've never followed a specific diet from a book or website, but my life has been a long saga of food elimination and calorie restriction. I've managed to maintain my weight, but my habits are unhealthy and have taken their toll on my mental health, physical health and relationships. I am in the midst of perimenopause and taking sugar out has reduced my hot flashes from almost one an hour on Day One to maybe 5 per day on Day Twenty Nine. What a blessing!

I am actually just finishing my Whole30. Well, I wasn't compliant on Day 14 and Day 21 so I'm not sure what to call it! I did make it 27 days without one bite of cookie, cake, ice cream, candy, frosting, etc. That, for this sugaraholic, is monumental! I have been living Paleo for the past year at 80/20, and I think that entire 20% has been chocolate. Cravings are under control but it has not been easy! The first two weeks I'm sure I put on weight as I shoved every Whole30 food into my mouth to avoid putting in some sugar! I did not weigh myself prior to starting no have I weighed myself for the past 29 days. But back to you since this is your journey here!

Third, and final: please get rid of the diet soda. My soap box issue. The chemicals that make up artificial sweeteners are nothing but trouble to our health and well being.

Good luck to you. I hope this is everything in the end that you have hoped for, and that you are happy and healthy!

Pam

Pam-thank you so much for sharing your experience and for the well wishes. I ordered 3 cookbooks but already started a binder for my printouts. ..and use the recipes on the web...

I think a Whole26ish is good after you've completed a Whole30. Staying compliant with Whole30 long term in our day and age is almost punishment for most of us! You will need to learn how to navigate daily life with all of those temptations, so going 30-ish is a good way to add back some foods while keeping out the foods that are very negative to you, personally.

good luck to you! I'm reaching that same crossroads where I'm needing to reintroduce foods and find a balance that works for me. I look forward to my oats! If cheese makes me bloat, I will cry.

Hello, my name is Pam and would like to join this group. I like Kelly am 52 years old and have 40 pounds I would like to get rid of. I have followed WW for years but the excess weight will not come off. I rarely eat processed foods, and limit my cheese, I don't drink milk so hopefully this will be a smooth transition. My downfalls are bread and my beloved hazelnut creamer for my coffee.

My niece and her husband just finished Whole 30, they said they both felt better physically, not to mention they lost weight and inches.

I look forward to being successful.

Hi, I'd like to join in the group as well! I'm starting Whole30 on June 1 also. I completed the challenge in January of this year and felt amazing, lost 12 lbs. I've stuck to mostly whole foods since then and lost 10 more lbs, but have slowly allowed some things to creep back in that are making me feel sluggish again. I need a reset, and then need to follow the reintroduction better this time so I'll know what I'm sensitive to! Good luck to everyone in the June 1 group, looking forward to the accountability of a group!

I did a partial Whole30 in April (got sick around the last week and couldn't keep going) but I felt amazing and was steadily losing weight before the illness. May presented challenges and I was not successful. I have come to realize that I had not tackled my food demons for long enough. They resurfaced quickly after April. So I am doing a Whole30 in June and focusing on my food relationship and coming to terms with the fact that moderation and chips and pizza are not synonymous with me. For newbies, Whole30 is doable and can be delicious if you plan ahead and are willing to try new things.

MrsFrosty, you told my story. I'm 51 and a newbie and starting June 1 as well. I too have 40 pounds to lose but more importantly I have fat to convert to muscle and need to make some overall health improvements.

I allowed work to become my whole focus to the detrement of my health, but I believe this program will be a step toward finding a better balance in all aspects of my life. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism last year and recently my blood pressure has been rising. I also had allergy tests a couple of weeks ago which uncovered some surprising food allergies; chief among them wheat - imagine that. ;O) So....while I'm still you're typical girl and would LOVE to lose those pounds the sciency stuff in the Whole30 book really rang true for me and I can see the scary writing on the wall where my overall health is concerned.

It solidified for me that improvement in my overall health is much more important that simple weight loss. If weight loss happens I'll be thrilled, but I'm trying to treat that as the icing on the cake I can no longer have. :)

I would love to join your group if you have room for one more.

Glad to have you join us....some of you have experience with Whole30....those of us who are true newbies can learn from you, I'm sure (I'm new to Whole30, Paleo, cooking....this is HUGE!). Also, many of you have very similar stories to mine...cool. Let's do this together! June 1 I will start a daily post here...it will say "June Whole30 Group - June 1, Day 1"...and so on...so taht each day we can share our support...our victories and our challenges...sound OK?

Paleo cooking is really quite simple since the ingredients are whole foods. If you cook, you can cook Paleo and Whole30 for sure.

If you have likes/dislikes for spices, vegetables and proteins and/or are stuck in what to make, you can always ask for people's favorites. We all have our go-to meals, meals that work well as left-overs, crowd pleasers, tricks of the trade and other stuff.

Good luck to all of you! I decided to reintroduce a little bit of honey yesterday to my diet and I'm not sure it went well. I am hoping it is because I ate a huge salmon dinner (salmon, to me, is so rich).

Enjoy your journey, June 1sters!

Some of the cookbooks that my family (Whole30 and non-Whole30) enjoyed are:

Practical Paleo: good recipes and a wonderful spice index for making your own compliant blends

Nom Nom Paleo App: easy recipes, great design, good flavor

Well Fed: good info on how to use basic ingredients to create multiple meals, fast meal ideas and basic cooking info.

Make It Paleo: good easy recipes, avoid the dessert section until you are Whole30 done, watch the recipes with lots of heat, recipes pâté up pretty

I tried a different book each week (library) to keep the meals enticing for the family. There are also a bunch of free recipes on the websites for each of the cookbooks above.

Oh, my best advice for newbies starting on the first:

clean out your fridge, cabinets and pantry of non compliant items (very freeing and reduces temptations)

make a meal plan for all three meals (being prepared is key for success)

go shopping before the 1st.

Double cook dishes, so you have lunch the next day

You may just want to do one long thread for the month. It will keep from cluttering the board and people tend not to post everyday, so threads may start to look empty. Just my thought, feel free to do whatever you want since you are spearheading :-)

It's the June 1st thread. I'd like to tag along on the journey if thats ok. I posted my own thread earlier as I had a burst of eagerness to verbalise my commitment lol. And I've been distracting myself since, well actually I've been wondering is Tamari sauce compliant? If its not' what do you use to make a stirfry?

I just might join you all if that is OK. I am Whole31 right now, but I completely bombed today and I need to immediately start over to give myself more time to slay the proverbial sugar dragon. I tried to add a small amount of honey (in a paleo cereal) and it triggered a binge like no other!

I actually feel depressed. A sugar depression. It really does hammer it home how good my mood actually had been the past 25-30 days being sugar free!

Could you please let me know where you start the thread and when? Thanks! ~Pam

Hi everyone. My name is Michelle and I'd like to join this thread as well. I've dabbled with Paleo in the past and my body always responds really well. However, I am an Ex-Weight Watchers Leader, so it is going to be difficult to stop tracking my food and start listening to my body. I'm ready to commit though, so I'm hoping I can start with all of you on June 1st.

Is anyone going to sign up for the daily newsletter? It would be nice for a bit more accountability and resources, but I really don't want to pay $15 if I don't need to. Do any experienced members recommend the newsletter, and could you let us newbies know if it's worth the price? Thanks!

Hi Michelle, I did sign up for the emails my first time and loved them! It was so satisfying each night to click on the I DID IT link! As a current WW member, I think of the Whole30 as a variation on WW's simply filling. Doing that might make you be able to let go of the need to track. I've never been great with tracking (despite being a lifetime member), but it was so liberating to know that I was "allowed" to not track!

Pam thx for the well wishes...hope your feeling better (from salmon vs the honey). I am not new just to Paleo cooking...at 52 I am new to cooking...period...believe it or not!

I recently got rid of//donated all my cookbooks....always looked at them but never actually used them (: weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Prevention, Biggest Loser, South Beach Cookbooks, etc. I ordered 3 new cookbooks

Well Fed

Everyday Paleo

Everyday Paleo Family Cookbook

Plus I made my first 3 recipes....one from Whole30, two from AncestralChef.com...and I have the NomNomPaleo app on my iPad plus there are recipes everywhere. Here are the 3 I made so far. This is so exciting for a newbie like me!

Kieanna thx for all that great info! Yes I ordered a couple of those books a few days ago I should have them tomorrow I'm looking forward to it. Also checking out lots of recipes online. Last week when I was on vacation I cleared out my cupboard pantry refrigerator of noncompliant foods and a few things that we need to keep around for my hubby....are on the shelf I can't really get to (: You're right it does feel great. And freeing. And yes. Went to whole foods and did some shopping little by little so I'm trying out recipes and am ready for June 1

thx for the feedback re daily vs one long thread. I do daily posts for a workout group I am a member of and have found that in that case, folks told me they like the separate daily posts...but if someone feels its a problem we can change the format. I'll start it as daily and see how it goes (:

Of course! Please join us. I have only tested out 3 recipes, but for stir fry I did the coconut aminos (substitute for soy sauce)...and w the Thai curry chicken I used the fish sauce
