Driver695
Hi All Newbie here Been trying to search the forums but couldn't find the answer. What coconut oil does everyone use? Normal or extra virgin it confuses me? Thanks Georgina
sunnymama
(might say extra virgin but that's just marketing )
amberino21
yup, it should be cold pressed - don't buy refined coconut oil!!
jenna@mymissingfactor
Although, when I started using coconut oil initially the taste of the virgin cold pressed was too coconutty for me, so I had to start with something a little more processed, then work up to the virgin cold pressed. Which now I can't get enough of.

AmyS
yup, it should be cold pressed - don't buy refined coconut oil!! ___________________________________________________________________ Actually refined is fine. I use Spectrum refined coconut oil. You can search here on the forums and see that ISWF and the moderators here support it. It is absolutely the only kind of coconut oil I can bring myself to use, because it has no taste or smell. So you can be sure I double, triple, quadruple checked that one. The larger point is that coconut oil, unless it says it is refined, will smell and taste like coconut oil. There are folks who adore that taste, and they like that it flavors everything they cook with it. There are others of us who can't be in the house when a jar of the unrefined stuff is open. For us, the refined version is a great option. Promise.

(Can't say I've ever seen or looked for anything but unrefined coconut oil though!)
sunnymama
Same here- I always thought any heat or "refining"destroys some nutrition, same with honey.
Renee Lee
Refined's fine. It's an extra step of processing, but unlike other refined seed oils, coconut's saturated enough that it isn't terribly affected by the heat
sunnymama
Seriously? That is good to know!
Vanniek71
I use Nutiva coconit oil, it is organic and cold pressed, and my local Costco stocks it all the time. Runs about $25 for 54oz tub, and it lasts quite a while
